I find thinking of what to cook for our family meal each night so exhausting. After a long day working I want to switch off and start to wind down. More often than not, I’m panicking with last minute meal plans and food shopping. If something can take away my “What’s for dinner?!” fluster – then brilliant! My Foodie Box does just that.
The small Perth company have made it their business to make weekday home cooking stress free and enjoyable with easy to follow recipes and home-delivered ingredients. Perfect for those time-poor families (saving you time shopping, meal planning, measuring and some prep). The meal boxes make practical gifts for those who may be going through a tough/busy time or for new parents.
How My Foodie Box Works
My Foodie Box deliver weekly boxes of fresh local produce, and tastebud tempting recipes, to easily prepare a delicious meal in your kitchen. Another big plus is that the packaging is 100% eco-friendly and reusable.
The hardest thing about ordering online is choosing from the 12 or so weekly dishes. I chose3 dishes in the “classic box” which costs $79.95 for 2 people:
• Orange and soy glazed pork
• Beef steak with roasted potato and braised mushroom
• Honey mustard chicken with mash
There are gluten free options (what I chose), as well as vegetarian, dairy free, low carb, low calorie, and vegan dish options too.
Most of the My Foodie Box meals can be on your table in 35 minutes or less.
Delivery days are Mondays and Tuesdays, when the foodie box is brought right to your door, between 7am and 7pm. If you are out, that’s ok! Each insulated box has ice packs inside, keeping the meat and veggies very cold and fresh. Little Chef was very excited to see what was in the box. We found three small boxes inside, filled with what we needed for each meal, as well as corresponding recipe cards. We popped the meat and two remaining boxes in the fridge and set about making our first meal!
Cooking With My Foodie Box
Cooking with My Foodie Box really appealed to me. Though I have a few dishes up my sleeve, generally I rotate between cooking the same “safe” five or six meals each week– spag bol, tacos, curry – you get the idea. I cook these dishes because they’re quick, easy, healthy and Little Chef will eat them with minimum fuss. It’s so nice to try something different and adding a new dish to my repertoire! The recipes have very easy to follow instructions and photos.
The ingredients are sourced from local WA farmers, ensuring highest quality produce. My Foodie Box handpick the ingredients, which are portioned, meaning no waste. Little Chef gave me a hand with the prep.
Dinner one was the honey mustard chicken with mash. This dish was very easy to make. All of the recipes are so easy to cook – almost fool proof! If you do get stuck, My Foodie Box offer a handy helpline.
Little Chef did whine a bit about the broccoli, but after a little coaxing, he really enjoyed his meal. I did choose something based on what I would rather eat, other than my fussy 10 year old, to be fair!
Dinner two, the next night, was beef steak with roasted potato and braised mushroom. This had to be the favourite out of the dinners, mainly because the thyme and mushroom braise is something I wouldn’t usually cook at home – I’ll certainly be making that again.
My Foodie Box was a big hit with Little Chef, especially the tasty honey mustard chicken and mash.
Cooking with My Foodie Box made me realise that I actually enjoy cooking. What I don’t like is thinking of what to cook each night and the monotony of cooking the same meals over and over again. My Foodie Box’s dishes change each week, so there’s always something new to try. And tonight we’ll be cooking up orange and soy glazed pork – yum!
