Port Coogee Parkside Retreat is a fantastic little neighbourhood Playground tucked away in the Parkside Retreat estate, just a short five-minute walk from Ngarkal Beach and the Port Coogee water park. Its coastal location makes it perfect for combining a park visit with a beach or marina wander, and it has a great community feel despite being a local pocket park.

The standout feature of the Playground is the large slide attached to an up-ended sea container. Kids can choose from two different climbing routes to reach the top โ either heading around the back to scale the outside up to the โdoorโ, or venturing inside where a series of rope bridges and platforms create a fun, slightly challenging climb.

The internal climbing route may be tricky for smaller children, but itโs sure to be a hit with confident climbers and older kids who enjoy a bit of adventure.

Another big favourite is the flying fox, which is always a crowd-pleaser. The design makes it easy to pull the seat back up to the platform, so kids donโt need much help to reset it for the next ride. The stop at the end of the track is smooth rather than jarring, which is reassuring for both kids and parents. The flying fox is also sturdy and comfortable enough that adults can hop on for a go too, making it a fun, shared experience for families.

Under the shade sails youโll find a birdโs nest swing set over soft-fall matting. While this particular nest swing doesnโt spin, it has a generous swing arc that thrill-seekers will love.

Also shaded is a wonderful wooden ship structure, complete with steering wheels, portholes and plenty of spots for passengers to sit. This area is perfect for imaginative play โ kids can captain their own boat, go on pirate adventures or simply climb and explore in and around the ship.

Around the outside of the main play area runs a mini pump track, ideal for scooters and bikes. Itโs dotted with small bumps, dips and street signs, creating a fun little circuit for kids to ride laps while still staying close by. This makes Port Coogee Parkside Retreat a great option if you have kids of varying ages โ some can be on the equipment while others whizz around the track.

Water play fans are also catered for with a small water pump and rock waterfall area. Children can pump the water and watch it trickle down the rocks, then balance and hop across the nearby log stepping stones. Itโs just enough water play to be exciting without being a full splash pad, and it adds another sensory element to the park.

For parents and carers, there are undercover bench tables with seating, making it easy to set up snacks or lunch while keeping an eye on the play area. A long stretch of lawn is perfect for spreading out a picnic rug, playing ball games or just letting kids run off some extra energy. Thereโs also a drinking fountain on site, handy on hot days when youโve been at the beach or out on the bikes.

Do note that parking is limited in the immediate area, as itโs very much a local neighbourhood park rather than a large regional Playground. The closest public toilets are located at Port Coogee Marina or the Port Coogee shopping complex, both a short drive or a longer walk away, so itโs worth keeping that in mind if youโre visiting with toilet-training toddlers or planning a longer play.
Port Coogee Parkside Retreat is a lovely, modern coastal Playground that combines climbing challenges, imaginative play, water play and a rideable pump track in a compact, shaded setting. Its proximity to Ngarkal Beach and the marina makes it an excellent stop as part of a bigger day out in Port Coogee, especially for families who love to mix park time with seaside adventures.
