If youโre looking for a playground thatโs great for imaginative play, Albacore Park in Sorrento might be for you. It has a fun castle play structure thatโs sure to get little imaginations going.
Unlike a lot of playgrounds, Albacore Parkโs main structure is wooden, giving it a more nature-based feel. The first thing we spotted was the two slides, one straight, one bumpy.
These are connected by a low middle platform with a wooden ladder and a rope ladder leading up to the slides. A firemanโs pole comes down at one end, and a ladder of stacked rubber platforms that Miss 4 loved is at the other. There is also a colourful abacus here for practising counting.
Branching off from the middle platform is a rope bridge, which leads to a set of monkey bars and a rope spider web. Miss 4 loved the web especially, pretending she was Spider-Man and climbing as high as she could.
The lower parts of the play structure feature a โsecret doorโ, as Miss 4 called it, and a shop or house for imaginative play. Miss 4 enjoyed pretending she was running a shop selling sausages, coffee and lollipops!
A spring rocker see-saw is located on its own in the middle of the sandpit. With lots of free space around it, you could easily bring down your sand toys and build some sandcastles or drive some toy trucks through it.
Across a footpath, we found a small swing set with a toddler swing and regular swing. We found most of the play equipment was shaded enough by the nearby trees that nothing seemed overly hot, which is good to know with summer coming up.
Under the trees on both sides of the path, we found some concrete turtles that children can use as stepping stones. Miss 4 thought these were cute and had fun counting them.
Beyond the play equipment, there is a good sized grassed area that would be good for running around with the family pooch or kicking a ball. Dogs are permitted to run off-lead here, and we spotted a bin with doggy poop bags if theyโre needed. If youโre into the rock hiding like we are, there are lots of great trees to hide your treasures in, too.
The only things missing at this lovely park are some toilets and some fencing. This is not a park to take children who like to bolt off, with busy Hepburn Avenue located nearby. If you do find youโre caught short toilet wise, public toilets are located nearby at BP on Marmion Avenue.
