Ahoy sailors! Set within the Sienna Wood estate in Hilbert, Shipwreck Park is a fantastic nautical-themed destination Playground designed with families and inclusivity in mind. Located around 36km south-east of Perth, this big, bright, fully fenced space is ideal for toddlers through to tweens, with plenty to keep everyone busy for hours.
From the moment you arrive, it’s clear the park has been thoughtfully planned for families. There’s a generous car park, unisex toilets and a parent room close by, and the entire Playground is fully fenced with multiple entry and exit points, including a push-button gate that’s perfect for prams and wheelchairs. Shade sails and trees provide relief from the sun across key play zones, and there are plenty of benches and grassed areas to spread out on.
The star of the show is the impressive 30-metre shipwreck structure, complete with “cargo”, rocks, and sand that set the scene for imaginative pirate adventures.
The detailing is fantastic – from the engine controller and speaking tubes disguised as water and gas pipes to the nooks and crannies kids can discover as they explore.
The ship is accessible for a wide range of ages and abilities, with a combination of ramps, stairs, ladders, and ropes offering different levels of challenge. Kids can climb, balance, and navigate their way around the wreck, making it perfect for both pretend play and active play.
Within the shipwreck you’ll find some clever interactive features. There are “elevators” where the platform drops towards ground level when stepped on, then rises again once the child hops off – a simple but very popular bit of engineering fun.
Two slides offer different experiences: a double-width slide for side-by-side racing and a narrower, slightly steeper slide for thrill-seekers.
A small rock-climbing wall adds a further challenge, encouraging coordination and confidence.
Nearby, a soft-fall “sea” hill dotted with blue pods invites kids to climb and bounce, and there are musical elements like drums that little ones will gravitate to.
Younger kids will love the multilevel sand play area, which comes equipped with pulleys and funnels for transporting and tipping sand. This section encourages cooperative, hands-on play and is great for toddlers and preschoolers developing fine motor skills.
The area is complemented by cute sea creature rockers, including a whale and seahorse, adding another layer of the ocean theme. Three in-ground trampolines set into the rubber soft-fall surface are perfect for kids who love to jump and provide a safe, contained way to burn energy.
The water play zone is a real crowd-pleaser on warm days. Children can work the pumps and gates to control the flow of water, sending it splashing along channels and through the sand. It’s a brilliant space for collaborative play, where kids naturally start experimenting with cause and effect, building dams, and redirecting the water together.
Between the sand and water areas, a stone creek runs down towards a nature play section filled with large rocks, logs, and balancing beams. This natural zone offers more open-ended, adventurous play and is a nice contrast to the structured equipment.
Swing lovers are well catered for, with two traditional swing sets plus a large tripod swing. One swing set features a toddler bucket seat and a standard flat swing, while the second has another regular swing and a high-backed, all-abilities swing with a harness, allowing children who need extra support to join in safely.
The tripod swing is a hit with older kids who enjoy pushing each other higher and swinging together. Stepping logs around this area continue the nature play theme and create extra mini challenges.
One of the standout attractions for many families is the dual flying fox. There are two parallel cables so kids can ride together – perfect for siblings or friends who want to race. One of the seats is a standard disc-style, while the other is an all-abilities harnessed seat, again making sure more children can experience the fun. Many visitors comment on just how fast and exhilarating this flying fox feels, and it’s often in constant use.
Shipwreck Park has been designed as a true community hub as well as a Playground. There are several picnic shelters and BBQs located near the toilet block, along with a drinking fountain and plenty of seating dotted around the play areas.
Grassed lawns inside the fenced Playground are ideal for picnics, ball games, or just spreading out on a rug while the kids play. Just outside the fence, families will find a turfed space equipped with table tennis and a basketball court for older kids and teens, plus a large enclosed off-leash dog park – handy if you’re bringing the family pet along for an outing.
Importantly, Shipwreck Park was created in collaboration with the Touched by Olivia Foundation and Stockland to be an inclusive, all-abilities play space. The mix of surfaces, ramp access, variety of swings and flying fox seats, and wide pathways helps ensure many children with different needs can enjoy the park. The thoughtful design and attention to detail shine through, making it not just visually impressive but genuinely welcoming.
