The Kent Street Weir Playground aka Wadjup Waabiny Playspace in Wilson has opened in October 2026! Found at the Kent Street Weir Precinct, on the banks of the Canning River, this mega playground ticks a lot of boxes. Perfect for a family day out, the huge play space is worth putting at the top of your to-visit list. It’s already looking like a fab addition to Perth’s family-friendly scene – particularly if you love a coffee in the park, or a brunch playdate, as its next to the brilliant Canning River Cafe.
The play space has been set up with a range of ages in mind, which is a win when you’ve got mixed-age kids in tow. Little ones get their own dedicated sand-fall play area, no getting steamrolled by the big kids.
There’s a small play structure with climbing and slides aimed at younger children.
Swings include a nest swing, dual toddler swing that parents can also hop on and a regular swing.
The main play structure is pretty impressive!
If your little ones get FOMO, they may be disappointed if they’re not quite big enough to climb to the top to the tower, as there is no easy way up.
There’s ladders and ropes all the way to the top.
The main play tower keeps older children occupied for a decent stretch, with a twisty slide and a tall straight slide too.
There’s even a ninja style course.
There’s a dual flying fox, so if you know kids, you know that queue is happening. That has two lines for races with mates, though the second line does not have an accessible seat like so many flying foxes do these days.
If you’re looking for accessible play, there is a ride-on roundabout, perfect for wheelchairs and strollers.
That’s not all… There’s a large waterplay area, which has a unique labrinth layout. There are four or five water fountains, and plenty of dam walls to open and close, for kids to have a little fun with.
There are two sand play stations, with pulleys, buckets and more.
There’s an interesting conveyer belt, which should be good for mud pies.
Low-to-the-ground ninja/parkour style obstacles for younger kids.
There’s a good dose of nature play,
a touch of whimsy
and art-focused interactive sensory areas as well, so pretty much every child is catered for.
There’s also Indigenous artwork throughout, which gives the precinct a real sense of place.
On the practical side, plenty of BBQs and shaded tables are on site, as are public toilets. You can actually relax and make a few hours of it, without having to dash home.
The wider precinct has plenty going on beyond the playground too. There’s a fenced off-leash dog exercise area, the Kent Street Weir Pump Track for riders of all levels.
Plus, the nearby Castledare Mini Railway runs twice a month.
And the cherry on top? The fab Canning River Cafe sits directly opposite, so a coffee catch-up mid-session is completely doable. No need to pack everything and pile back into the car straight after the kids have worn themselves out and declared themselves starving. Linger longer with a coffee, babycino, and brunch. There’s plenty of grab and go goodies, plus a solid brekkie and lunch menu with lots of GF options.
And after all that, you may still have a little time for a nature wander over the bridge and by the Canning River.
A solid play, a decent catch-up, maybe a bite to eat. Kent Street Weir Precinct is a real all-rounder.
