After years of passionate campaigning from local kids and teens, Cottesloe finally has its own skate park and pump track โ and itโs a beauty. Perched at John Black Dune Park, just behind the Cottesloe Tennis Club and a short walk from the beach, this coastal skate spot combines epic views with a thoughtfully designed facility that genuinely caters for a wide range of ages and abilities. The setting alone makes it feel special; riders can drop in for a session and then wander down to the water or grab a drink from nearby cafes.

The main skate bowl is the hero for confident skaters and scooter riders, but itโs also approachable for less experienced kids. The two-level concrete bowl offers different depths so younger or newer riders can start on the shallower side and work their way up, while more advanced riders make use of the deeper section and rail along the top to work on grinds and more technical tricks. Because the bowl is fully integrated into the wider park layout, itโs easy for families to keep an eye on kids from the edge without needing to be right in the action.

Next to the bowl is the compact but feature-packed skate plaza, which brings a strong โstreetโ feel to the park. Long ledges and curbs, plus a variety of rails, give plenty of options for older kids and teens to practice slides and grinds. Articulated banks with hips and smooth transitions encourage creativity and flow, and mini ramps at either end of the plaza help tie lines together.

Even though the footprint isnโt huge, thereโs enough variety that riders can spend a long time here without getting bored, and the design allows for progression from beginner through to advanced level as skills grow.

A shaded seating area tucked between the plaza and bowl offers a welcome place to rest, watch the tricks and supervise younger children.

The tar pump track is a major drawcard and ensures that itโs not just skaters who feel welcome here. Designed as a continuous loop, the track is ideal for BMX riders, scooters and skateboards, with a rhythm of rollers, corner bowls and pumps that reward balance and coordination. Riders can simply roll around and enjoy the momentum, or challenge themselves to complete laps without pedalling or pushing. Itโs a great option for kids who arenโt quite ready for the bowl or plaza but still want an adrenaline hit, and it adds to the sense that this is a genuinely multi-use wheeled sports hub.

Around the edges of the facility, the surrounding parkland is being revegetated, with native and waterwise planting planned to soften the dunes and provide more green open space over time. While thereโs no Playground equipment as such, the open areas give non-riding siblings space to wander or sit, and the whole park feels nicely integrated into the coastal environment.
Parking is relatively straightforward considering the popular location. There is free parking available along Napier Street, and families can also make use of the Town of Cottesloe #2 car park accessed via Marine Parade, which is handy if youโre combining a skate with a beach visit. Being in the heart of Cottesloe means there is no shortage of coffee shops, bakeries and eateries within walking distance, so itโs easy to grab a takeaway coffee while the kids ride or reward them with a post-skate treat. The main downside is that there are no toilets on site at the skate park itself โ the nearest public toilets are at Cottesloe Beach, so itโs worth factoring in the short walk, especially with younger children.
Overall, Cottesloe Skate Park & Pump Track feels like a long overdue but very welcome addition to the western suburbs. It provides a dedicated, purpose-built space for kids, teens and adults to get active outdoors, practise their tricks and spend time together in a vibrant, coastal setting. If you have scooter-mad kids, budding skaters or BMX fans in the family, itโs absolutely worth a visit.
