As of autumn 2022, Coventry Village in Morley now has a fenced outdoor playground. In addition to the existing indoor playground, this is located close to cafes and restaurants. If your kids love to climb, then they are sure to love this!
The play area is made up predominantly of climbing structures. The base is rubber softfall, so perfect for those of us who dislike sand. Signage stages the play area is tailored to kids aged four to thirteen years old. The indoor playground is targeted more towards the littler kids.
The first structure Miss 7 climbed had the option of climbing up a rocking climbing wall, a rope ladder, or twisty metal ladders. There’s also a fireman pole for getting back down. The structure has a hidey shelter at the top that gives it a UFO aesthetic.
The next part Miss 7 opted to explore was the ninja course type structure. This involves several hoops to climb through. Miss 7 pretended the ground was untouchable lava as she wriggled through. This attaches through to a monkey bar and balancing wall.
This all connects on to another tall climbing structure. There’s a rope ladder to climb up on this one also, in addition to a small climbing net on the other side. There is a wiggly slide to get down from the top platform.
Freestanding adjacent to this are two rocket ships spring rockers. These would be great to use with siblings or friends. One is a lower profile craft in the style of say The Jetson, while the other is a tall pod style craft ringed with seating. Hold on to the centre pole or platform and rock together!
The final part of the playground looks like a lunar lander or similar. The centre part has rings to climb up and down, and rock climbing walls to climb up.
This new outdoor playground is located at the front of the complex. There is a solid metal fence and a mag-lock gate around the play equipment, so that should help keep kids away from the nearby road. To one side, adjacent to the play area, there is a row of picnic tables. If you’re trying to feed a younger sibling or catching up with a friend or family member whilst the kids play, there would be a great spot to sit. You can still see the kids inside the playground from this vantage point.
Shade sails cover the play equipment for the most part to help keep it cool. Much of the play equipment is metal, so you may want to check the temperature of seats and platforms before little ones sit or climb.
The playground is also close to the cafes at the front of the Coventry Village complex. So, whilst waiting for your meals to be arrive, an adult can take the kids for a play. The playground would also be a great incentive to behave through a grocery shopping trip! ๐
As with any shopping centre playground, there are a few brief rules to follow. Kids must have adult supervision at all times. So you cannot just drop your kids off and go shop, obviously. Food or drink is not allowed in the playground. Nor are dogs or scooters or bikes.
During our visit, which was on one of the scorching hot days we’ve had recently, we stopped off inside for ice cream at MICA Creamery. This is located next to the indoor playground, and the store sells of delicious gelato and sorbet flavours. Miss 7 selected a refreshing raspberry sorbet and I tried a citrusy yuzu sorbet. Both were amazing! We highly recommend giving it a go.
So, whether you’re planning a family meal out or a quick shopping trip with kids, this is a fun place to stop and let them blow off some stream. The equipment is perfect for active kids and for making up imaginative games. Miss 7 enjoyed our visit, apart from the heat of the day, and would happily run wild here again.
