Scarborough Beach Skate Park, nicknamed “The Snake Pit”, is a massive and seriously impressive skate destination right on the Scarborough foreshore. Overlooking the Indian Ocean and framed by the surrounding cafes, grassed terraces and Whale Playground, it’s a spot where you can easily spend the whole day with kids and teens of all ages.
The centrepiece of the skate park is the competition‑grade bowl known as The Snake Pit. It’s designed for more advanced skaters, scooter riders, and BMX riders who love speed and big lines, but there are plenty of other features that cater to beginners and intermediate riders too.

All through the park, you’ll find a mix of rails, ledges, banks and ramps so kids can work their way up from simple roll‑ins to more technical tricks as their confidence grows. The concrete is smooth and well finished, which makes it feel a bit “pro” even if you’re just starting out.

Scarborough Beach Skate Park isn’t just for wheels. Right in the middle of the space there’s a climbing wall that offers different routes so both younger kids and older climbers can find a suitable challenge. The whole climbing area is surrounded by padded flooring for softer landings, making it much less stressful for parents watching those first tentative climbs or slightly more daring moves.

Next to the climbing area, you’ll find a half‑court basketball space. This is perfect if you’ve got kids who aren’t into skating but still want to burn off some energy, or for teens who like to mix up their session with a game of hoops. It also means siblings with different interests can all enjoy the area without having to split up.

Practical facilities are well covered. There’s a toilet block right at the skate park, along with handy rinse‑off showers for sandy or sweaty kids after a session. Being part of the Scarborough Beach redevelopment, the whole area feels modern and family‑friendly, with good visibility across the park so you can keep an eye on your kids from multiple vantage points.

One of the biggest drawcards is the location. The skate park sits alongside Scarborough’s strip of eateries, so grabbing a coffee, ice‑cream, or family lunch is easy. The much‑loved Whale Playground is just next door, giving younger siblings a fantastic play option while older kids ride. The large grass hill overlooking the beach is ideal for picnics, sunsets or simply sitting back to watch the action in the bowl and out on the water. With the beach directly opposite, you can easily combine skating, climbing, basketball, Playground time and a swim in a single outing.

Scarborough Beach Skate Park comes into its own for tweens and teens, especially at busy times like weekends and holidays when the atmosphere is buzzing. However, if you have younger or less confident riders, it’s worth aiming for earlier mornings or school‑time visits when it’s generally quieter and they’ll have more space to practise. Helmets are a must, and pads are a very good idea given the size and speed of some sections.

Whether you’ve got a budding skater, a scooter‑mad primary schooler, or a teen who loves hanging out by the beach, Scarborough Beach Skate Park is a brilliant all‑day destination. With excellent facilities, loads of nearby food options and one of Perth’s best family beaches over the road, it’s an easy choice when you’re looking for something active and fun that suits a wide age range.
