Buccaneer Park has recently opened in Eglinton, around 35 minutes north of Perth, and is a lovely little playground for younger children. With its ocean and boat theme, it is especially appealing for any little ones who love boats, ships and imaginative adventures.
The main feature is the large boat playground, surrounded by waves and nautical details. Children can explore both the lower and upper levels, with plenty of interactive features along the way. There is a single slide, rock climbing wall, rope climbing arch, mini fire pole, lookout windows, a flag, tunnel, steering wheel and spinning sensory panels.

One of the features that really stood out to us was the anchor point with a pulley and bucket system. Children can load the bucket with some of the surrounding mulch and use the chains to pull it up and down, adding a simple hands-on element to the imaginative boat play.
There is also a basket swing and a single speed boat rocker for younger children.

The playground has a combination of mulch, soft-fall rubber flooring and grass. The grassed area gives children plenty of space to run around, and there are benches and a covered picnic table nearby. The playground is not fenced, but the open grassed area provides a nice amount of space for children to play while still allowing parents to keep a close eye on them.
There is a water point for people, as well as a dog bowl, and a bin onsite.

For families wanting a little more activity, there is also a basketball court with two hoops.

A shade sail has been planned for the playground, although it was not yet installed when we visited. Once complete, this will be a welcome addition, particularly during the warmer months.
There are currently no bathrooms at the playground, and there is no dedicated parking. Street parking is available, although it is somewhat limited, so this is something to keep in mind when planning your visit.
If you are going to make the trip, pack a picnic blanket and some snacks and make a morning of it. For a coffee or something sweet, Beau’s Real Fruit Ice Cream at the Elavale sales office is just a short walk down the road.
Kookaburra Park is also nearby on another road, so you could easily turn your visit into a little playground-hopping adventure around the area.
Buccaneer Park is a lovely new addition to Eglinton and a particularly nice option for toddlers and preschool-aged children. The boat theme gives it something a little different from the usual playground, while the range of climbing, sensory and imaginative play features gives little ones plenty to explore.
If you are looking for something simple to do these school holidays, pack a picnic, bring a ball and head north to check out Buccaneer Park for yourself.
