Yokine Reserve Playground is a fabulous space for kids of all ages! The playground is fully fenced and double-gated, which is perfect for containing little escape artists.
The play equipment is a mix of traditional playground equipment and sensory and nature play.
Entering the main gate from the car park, heading to the right into the main part of the play area, you’re presented with a open, flat roundabout. My Miss 10 likes to stand up and walk on it to make it spin, while many kids like to either sit and push with their feet or hold onto the sit and run to spin it.
Further along, there is a second, smaller roundabout. This one has a rope ladder covering the outer rings, which makes for more acrobatic fun as kids can swing off the outside or climb the inside as it spins.
If your kids love swings, this play space has eight! These include a hammock swing and a birds nest swing.
The centre of Yokine Reserve Playground is made up of platforms built around huge gumtrees. These lovely trees provide shade over the slide, rope webs, climbing wall and seating area for much of the day.
Kids will enjoy climbing from one section of this play area to another. Miss 10 loves the climbing wall. The different shapes and sizes of the grips vary the challenge.
In the sand pit adjacent, there are a pair of spinners, and beside them a pair of large spring rockers that little ones can sit on.
My Miss 10 has always liked the musical section of the park. There are three metal drums of varying sizes, pipes to dong like giant windchimes and a metal spinner.
Another musical instrument is located on the opposite side of the playground: A wooden xylophone. This has mallets to strike with, and it is actually tuneful! We have played nursery rhymes like Mary Had A Little Lamb or Hot Cross Buns on it many times.
Behind the main musical section, there is a balancing area. Another favourite of Miss 10 over the years! There are balancing beams of varies lengths, tree stumps to jump across, and recycled branches to navigate across. There is also a wobbly bridge which will test little one’s balance. This is still a favourite with Miss 10!
At the opposite end of the park with the xylophone, there is a small individual spinner and a couple of small spring rockers. There are also swings for toddlers, and a water play area with sand. Children can press a button to release water for a limited time. This will run through a course carved in the cement top and eventually run into the sandpit below. It’s worth packing a spare set of clothes and a towel, just in case kids get messy (I speak from experience!).
Yokine Reserve Playground has two gazebo areas suited to birthday parties or family gatherings, one of which contains a barbecue. In addition to this, there is a smaller barbecue area outside of the fenced area with tables under the surrounding trees. There are also two water fountains for a quick drink on the go.
As of 2024, the play area now has toilet facilities located inside the gates. This is an improvement as you used to need to gather up the kids and leave the park together for a bathroom visit if someone needed to go, or coordinate with a friend or family member if visiting in a group. Now, there are two unisex toilets inside the gates and two outside. The City of Stirling has also had the toilet block painted with gorgeous native bird themed murals.
In addition to this great play space, Yokine Reserve has some great bike and walking paths surrounding the reserve grounds. These are all asphalt or concrete, so nice and smooth for little ones learning to ride bikes or scooters, and easy rolling for those pushing a pram.
There are also multiple ovals for kicking around a football or for running around with the family dog. There are also two small pocket playgrounds dotted along these walks, as well as another barbecue area. On a far oval, there is often a model plane enthusiast group that meets up if your kids like to watch planes flying.
Another great addition is the Park Coffee, a coffee van that regularly visits from Wednesday to Sunday, providing hot drinks, cold drinks, breakfast rolls, small snacks and icy poles. They even stock treats for the dogs who visit!
On weekends during summer, an ice cream van often visits too.
The only thing I feel is missing here is some more all-abilities play equipment. There are some great paths and smooth sealed areas for wheelchair access so all kids can move around the park with their families, but some swings or spinners a child with limited mobility could use would be a great addition, too.
Otherwise, we love this park. It’s close to everything. It has toilets, refreshments nearly and it feels fairly safe for families with little ones with the double-gates. There’s lots of seating for parents and carers to to rest or sit and feed their littler ones. I love that it has natural shade, as well as shade sail added in summer. With so much to offer, this playground is well worth a visit!

Hello yesterday the 10 th of October I attended my grandsons birthday party which was a beautiful place to have it but I wasnโt impressed with the amount of dogs that were left of theyโre leash running all over the place we put food on the table and no word of a lie we had to chase dogs away Now I thought all dogs had to be on leashes what is going on this is not right because we had little children running around as well so please get something done about this because next time I will take a big bat with me and personally hit the dog that comes near my grandkids thank you
I think you must have been to this park on an unusual day. Iโm a local to this park and bring my kids here at least 3 times each week, for the last 5 years – Iโve never once seen an off leash dog within the play space. There will very, very rarely be a dog on lead within the gates but every time Iโve seen this the owner takes care to keep those dogs away from the main play spaces. Iโm sorry that your grandsons birthday party was marred by what is in my experience an extremely unusual occurrence for this
playground.
Was full of older people staring and shaking their head at us, as if theyโd never seen a young person before. Horrible vibe. Wonโt be back there!
I visited this park with my son for a birthday party on the weekend. I was amazed at how much there was to do to wear out a bunch of 3-4 olds. I’m just kicking myself for not visiting sooner when we lived closer by. It was really good as there was a range of ages playing without getting in each other’s way as happens at my local playground.
I don’t know what prompted the other reviews, but there were no dogs within the gated area and the only “older people” were parents and grandparents having quality time with happy children.
