Tucked along the western end of Wordsworth Avenue, Yokine Reserve Playground is a brilliant allโrounder for families, with something to suit toddlers through to tweens. The fully fenced, doubleโgated play space feels safe and contained, making it ideal for busy little explorers and a popular choice for birthday parties and weekend catchโups.

The Playground combines traditional equipment with nature and sensory play. As you enter from the main car park, kids are usually drawn straight to the big, flat roundabout โ perfect for spinning while standing, sitting or running around the edge. Nearby, a smaller roundabout wrapped in rope netting invites more adventurous play, with children climbing, hanging and swinging as it turns.

If your kids love swings, theyโre spoilt for choice here, with multiple options including a hammock swing and a birds nest swing, so different ages can all find something that feels just right.

At the heart of the play space, timber platforms and walkways are built around towering gum trees, creating a lovely, shaded hub for climbing and imaginative play. Children can move between rope nets, a small climbing wall and an accessible slide, with plenty of opportunities to test balance, coordination and courage. The trees offer natural shade for much of the day, and additional shade sails are added in the warmer months, which makes a big difference on hot Perth afternoons.

Youโll find plenty of sandโbased fun too. In one sandpit there are spinners and chunky spring rockers that are great for younger children. Another highlight is the water play area: kids can press a button to release water, which flows along carved channels before spilling into the sand below. This simple feature provides endless entertainment, from dam building to muddy kitchen creations, so itโs well worth packing a spare change of clothes and a towel.

Musicโloving kids will adore the sensory elements scattered through the Playground. Thereโs a cluster of large metal drums, pipes that chime when struck and a spinner that adds to the soundscape. On the opposite side of the play space, a wooden xylophone with attached mallets is surprisingly tuneful โ you can actually pick out simple songs like โMary Had a Little Lambโ or โHot Cross Bunsโ, which is a fun way to play together.

Running alongside these more active areas is a fantastic balancing zone. Here youโll find timber beams of various heights and lengths, tree stumps to hop across, recycled branches to navigate and a wonderfully wobbly bridge. Itโs an area kids tend to return to year after year, gradually challenging themselves more as their confidence grows.

AAt the quieter end of the Playground, near the xylophone, there are toddler swings, a small individual spinner and more spring rockers, giving younger children their own little corner.

Facilities at Yokine Reserve Playground have improved in recent years, particularly with the addition of new toilets. As of 2024 there are now unisex toilets both inside and outside the gated play area, including accessible options, so you no longer need to round everyone up and leave the Playground for a quick dash to the bathroom. The toilet block has also been brightened up with colourful native bird murals, which adds to the welcoming feel.

Yokine Reserve itself is much more than just the main Playground. Sealed bike and walking paths loop around the ovals, making it an excellent spot for scooter and bike practice or a gentle pram walk. The paths are smooth and wide, with plenty of room for beginners, and youโll pass open grassed areas that are perfect for ball games, flying a kite or letting the family dog stretch their legs outside the fenced play space. Keep an eye out and you may spot a model aircraft or drone club using the far ovals or designated drone area from time to time, which can be fascinating for kids to watch.
There are several shaded spots for picnics and parties. Inside the fenced Playground youโll find two gazebo areas, one with a barbecue, plus extra benches and seating dotted around. Just outside the fence, under the surrounding trees, there are more barbecues and picnic tables, as well as water fountains for quick drink stops. The combination of ample seating, good shade and nearby toilets makes this an easy venue for family gatherings and childrenโs birthdays; if youโre planning a larger event or bringing in entertainers or equipment, you can check the City of Stirlingโs hire information for Yokine Regional Open Space for booking requirements.

Overall, Yokine Reserve Playground is a standout northโofโtheโriver destination. Itโs central, easy to find, and offers a great balance of nature play, sensory experiences, active equipment and quieter corners for younger children. With toilets on site, lots of shade, regular coffee and iceโcream vans and extensive paths and ovals to explore, itโs the kind of park you can easily spend a whole morning or afternoon at. If you havenโt visited yet โ or itโs been a few years โ itโs well worth adding to your familyโs Playground list.

Hello yesterday the 10 th of October I attended my grandsons birthday party which was a beautiful place to have it but I wasnโt impressed with the amount of dogs that were left of theyโre leash running all over the place we put food on the table and no word of a lie we had to chase dogs away Now I thought all dogs had to be on leashes what is going on this is not right because we had little children running around as well so please get something done about this because next time I will take a big bat with me and personally hit the dog that comes near my grandkids thank you
I think you must have been to this park on an unusual day. Iโm a local to this park and bring my kids here at least 3 times each week, for the last 5 years – Iโve never once seen an off leash dog within the play space. There will very, very rarely be a dog on lead within the gates but every time Iโve seen this the owner takes care to keep those dogs away from the main play spaces. Iโm sorry that your grandsons birthday party was marred by what is in my experience an extremely unusual occurrence for this
playground.
Was full of older people staring and shaking their head at us, as if theyโd never seen a young person before. Horrible vibe. Wonโt be back there!
I visited this park with my son for a birthday party on the weekend. I was amazed at how much there was to do to wear out a bunch of 3-4 olds. I’m just kicking myself for not visiting sooner when we lived closer by. It was really good as there was a range of ages playing without getting in each other’s way as happens at my local playground.
I don’t know what prompted the other reviews, but there were no dogs within the gated area and the only “older people” were parents and grandparents having quality time with happy children.
use Yokine Play place in your gps to get to the right section of this large reserve.
