Sunset Heritage Precinct, Dalkeith

There’s a birds nest-style swing, a wooden play house structure, and a messaging tube.

The main feature of this play area is a multilevel treehouse. It has a view of the water from the platforms, and a wind chime made of pipes mounted underneath.

The play equipment is surrounded by fine, soft sand with a wood chip base around the outside. Bring a bucket and spade or some toy trucks for some creative sandy fun.

The playground is not fenced, so little wanderers would need to be watched, although the play area is set far enough away from the road and carpark that it should be fairly safe. It also currently doesn’t have shade sails, relying on natural shading from the trees. So don’t forget a hat and sunscreen.

We found lots of seating under the shady trees with benches and logs set out around the playground and grassed area. Perfect to sit and relax with a takeaway coffee while listening to the sounds of the birds while the kids play. We were serenaded by cheeky kookaburras during our visit.

There are barbecue facilities available with a semi-covered eating area close by. With a large grassed area, the options are there for picnics, parties, or ball games. The grass is thick and luxurious.

I believe this playground may be better suited to preschool age and over as toddlers may struggle or get stuck on some of the climbing equipment. Miss 2.5 needed rescuing twice from the treehouse, and she fell while attempting to climb the small play house with some older children.

Sunset Heritage Precinct is a beautiful, well put together nature play area. There are lots for energetic kids to enjoy.
