Rushton Park, Kelmscott

If you’re chasing a new playground, Rushton Park in Kelmscott is such a good one to have on your list. Found in the Perth Hills foothills, it’s close to bush trails for a pre- or post-play wander. The play equipment (replaced in late 2025), is vibrant and green, with reed-like green poles blending into the riverside spot. 

The playground’s glow-up looks fantastic and it’s set up really nicely for a mixed-age crew. For the tiny humans, there’s a smaller, low-to-the-ground climbing equipment with a slide that’s spot-on for toddlers. Steps, a little platform, and a mini climbing wall are all enough challenge to feel exciting, but still close enough to earth that the little ones can access it all.

Then there’s the bigger structure for older kids (or confident climbers) with loads of ropes and bars to navigate their way around before conquering the bigger slide. This wood-chip based play space, is enough to keep them entertained and great for burning energy.

Swing lovers are covered. There’s a traditional swing set with a toddler swing.

Plus, a nest swing that multiple kids can pile on.

And the highlight is likely to be the flying fox. There are two cables for racing, one cable with an accessible seat so more kids can have a go, without needing to be super confident or coordinated.

Rushton Park is also only a 2-minute drive from the kid-friendly Pink Cafe. This is a friendly little spot perfect for a post play brunch or grabbing takeaways to enjoy in the park. 

The whole park sits on the banks of the Canning River, with plenty of dappled shade. You may want to keep this in mind if you have little wanderers. 

Add picnic tables, free BBQs, toilets, and heaps of parking, and you’ve got an easy, low-stress outing that works for playdates, or a stop on a Perth Hills adventure.
