Riverton Jetty Playground is a gorgeous nature play spot on the banks of the Canning River, right beside Lo Quay River Cafe in Wilson. Sitting within Riverton Jetty Park, part of the wider Canning River Regional Park, itโs a lovely place for families to combine a Playground visit with riverside walks, wildlife spotting, a paddle on the water or a relaxed cafรฉ meal nearby. The setting really is the star: big river views, plenty of birdlife and a relaxed, community feel, especially on weekends when itโs buzzing with families, cyclists and kayakers.

The Playground itself is nature based, with lots of timber, rope and sand rather than bright plastic.

Kids can choose between two slides, traditional swings, and a fun hammock-style swing thatโs perfect for lounging or for younger kids to share.

A tall spinning rope frame challenges balance and climbing skills, while logs, beams and other balance obstacles encourage little ones to test their coordination.

The sand and water play features are a big hit on warm days, and the carved plants and animals dotted around the play space add a lovely local touch, inviting kids to look more closely and spark conversations about the river environment.

Thoughtful design helps the Playground feel adventurous without being overwhelming. The space is partially fenced, with barriers between the play area and both the road and the river, which gives parents some peace of mind while still keeping the Playground open and connected to the park beyond. It isnโt fully enclosed, so youโll still want to keep a close eye on toddlers, but the layout is open and easy to supervise from multiple angles. Shade sails cover much of the main play area, there are sandy surfaces under key equipment and the riverside trees add extra natural shade, especially later in the day.

Facilities around the Playground make it easy to settle in for a few hours. There are barbecue facilities and picnic tables, as well as park benches scattered through the grassed areas, so you can choose a sunny or shady spot depending on the season. A drinking fountain is on hand for refills, and toilets are available at the site. The riverfront setting also includes a boat ramp / canoe launch, so itโs a popular starting point for paddling on the calm Canning River, or for a quick fish from the jetty for older kids and teens.
Being right next door to Lo Quay River Cafe is a huge bonus. The cafรฉ is open seven days a week from 8am to 5pm for breakfast, lunch and coffee, with both indoor seating and plenty of outdoor tables spilling onto the grass with direct views of the Playground. Many families grab a table on the lawn so adults can enjoy a proper sitโdown meal or a takeaway coffee while the kids run back and forth to the play equipment. The cafรฉโs riverside position and flexible seating make it an especially good option for prams, grandparents and larger groups.

Access to Riverton Jetty Playground is excellent whether youโre arriving by car, bike or on foot. There is roadside parking as well as a small car park near the cafรฉ, though it can fill quickly on weekends, sunny days and during school holidays. The Playground links directly to the shared walking and cycling paths that trace the Canning River through Canning River Regional Park, so it works well as a rest stop on a longer ride or walk.
Dogโloving families will be pleased to know that Riverton Jetty Park is dogโfriendly, with dogs allowed on a lead throughout the area. Itโs a common spot for locals to walk their dogs along the foreshore before or after grabbing a coffee from Lo Quay. Just remember to keep dogs leashed near the Playground and river, and to pick up after them so the area stays pleasant for everyone.
One of the real joys of this Playground is the close connection to nature. The calm waters of the Canning River attract ducks, swans and other aquatic birds, and patient kids might spot fish jumping or kayakers gliding past. Early mornings and late afternoons are particularly beautiful times to visit, with softer light, more wildlife activity and cooler temperatures in summer. Because the park is part of a larger regional park, thereโs also a sense of space โ you can easily wander beyond the immediate Playground area for a short riverside stroll or to explore other picnic spots nearby.

Riverton Jetty Playground is an easy recommendation for families looking for a relaxed, scenic day out. The combination of nature play equipment, generous shade, good facilities, a friendly riverside cafรฉ and access to walking, cycling and paddling makes it suitable for a wide range of ages.
