Pirate Playground in Ellenbrook is a compact, fully fenced neighbourhood park that packs in a lot of fun for young children, especially pirate-loving toddlers and preschoolers. Located just off Verbana Drive near Cashman Avenue, this themed Playground is designed for imaginative play, with plenty of soft fall and sand underfoot to cushion little tumbles. While the fencing gives parents peace of mind, there are a few gaps under sections of the fence where determined little escape artists could squeeze through, so itโs still worth keeping a close eye on very young children.

The centrepiece of the Playground is the impressive pirate ship structure. Kids can take the wheel at the shipโs steering wheel, man the pretend cannons and climb up to the lookout to spot imaginary enemies or sea creatures.

Palm tree features and a treasure chest complete the pirate vibe, encouraging children to create their own stories of buried treasure and daring rescues. Balance beams double as โplanksโ to walk, adding a playful challenge for growing gross motor skills.

This park really shines for imaginative play. Children can pretend the surrounding soft fall and sand are the ocean, complete with sharks, crocodiles and even a whale lurking in the โwaterโ.

Itโs the kind of Playground where kids can easily spend a long time acting out adventures, rather than simply running from one piece of equipment to the next.

Aside from the ship itself, thereโs a good mix of equipment to keep little ones busy. A hammock in the sand is perfect for a gentle rock or a quiet swing, while traditional swings are on hand for kids who love that back-and-forth motion.

Thereโs also a seesaw and a plastic-seated merry-go-round thatโs easier for younger children to stay seated on compared with traditional standing spinners.

A small rope climbing area offers a bit of a challenge for slightly older or more confident kids, helping them build strength and coordination while still being appropriately scaled for a local park.

Parents and carers are well catered for with multiple benches and picnic tables scattered around the Playground, making it easy to sit and supervise or enjoy a snack break. There are plenty of parking bays close by, so itโs convenient to pop in for a play when youโre in the area. Two public toilets are located just outside the fenced Playground, near the carpark, which is a big plus when visiting with toddlers or preschoolers who may need quick toilet dashes.

While there isnโt a cafรฉ on site, a handy option is to stop past the nearby 7/11 servo and grab a coffee and some Krispy Kremes on your way to or from the Playground. It isnโt within easy walking distance from the park with kids in tow, but itโs close enough for a quick drive-by treat.
Overall, Pirate Playground in Ellenbrook is a fun, themed local park thatโs particularly suited to younger children. The pirate ship, soft fall and sand, and mix of play equipment create a space that encourages creativity and role play, while the fencing, shade and nearby toilets tick off many practical boxes for families.
