Geraldton Foreshore Youth Precinct Playground is a brilliant stop for families road-tripping up the coast or holidaying in Geraldton. Set right on the town foreshore outside the Geraldton Yacht Club, it overlooks sparkling Geraldton Bay and makes an ideal spot for kids to burn off energy while adults enjoy the ocean views. The Playground has a real โsuper parkโ feel and is best suited to confident climbers and kids roughly 4 years and up, though there are a few elements younger children can enjoy with supervision.

The standout feature is the impressive Sky Walk โ a towering rope and bridge structure with multiple turrets linked by nets and platforms. To reach the long, bright red slide, kids first need to tackle a good amount of climbing, which adds a sense of adventure. The slideโs highest point is around six metres, so expect a decent rush on the way down. School-aged kids will love the challenge, and even younger children who are keen climbers may manage it with a bit of patience and encouragement.

Next to the Sky Walk are two birds nest swings. These are always popular, especially for toddlers who can lie back and relax as a grown-up gently pushes, or for groups of kids who like to stand around the edge and swing together. Theyโre also a good inclusive play option, as less able-bodied children and even adults can comfortably join in.

Tech-loving kids will be drawn straight to the NEOS electronic games dotted through the precinct. These interactive posts light up and give voice instructions, asking players to listen, watch for colours and patterns, and then tap the right spots in the correct sequence โ a little bit like a giant, active version of โSimon Saysโ. The games are fast-paced and get kids running back and forth between posts, and several children can play at the same time, which is ideal for siblings or friends.
Inclusive play has clearly been considered in the design of the youth precinct. The Liberty Variety Roundabout is wheelchair accessible and allows wheelchair users and able-bodied children to ride together. This makes it easier for all kids to share the same fun, rather than playing side by side on separate equipment. Thereโs also a rock climbing boulder that offers a fresh challenge for older children or confident climbers who want to test their strength and agility on something a bit different from a standard climbing frame.
For tweens, teens and sporty adults, the precinct includes extra activities beyond traditional play equipment. A full-size basketball court gives older kids a place to shoot hoops or join in a casual game, and thereโs also a table tennis table and table soccer. Youโll need to bring your own bats and balls for table tennis, or plan a quick stop at a nearby store or cafรฉ if you want to make the most of these features. These additions make the Playground a genuine โyouth precinctโ where older siblings are less likely to complain about being bored while the younger ones play.
Around the play area youโll find plenty of seating options, including benches where adults can sit and supervise. Shade directly over the equipment is limited, so sunhats, sunscreen and water bottles are a must, especially in the warmer months. Many families choose to spread out picnic blankets on the adjacent grassed areas instead. Here youโll find some natural shade from surrounding trees, making it a more comfortable base for longer stays or a relaxed lunch by the bay. Itโs a lovely spot to watch the kids play, take in the foreshore atmosphere and enjoy the sea breeze.
Facilities are a strong point at Geraldton Foreshore Youth Precinct Playground. There are water fountains close by for topping up drink bottles, and a large toilet block right next to the Playground. The amenities include an adult change table and a hoist, which is a huge plus for families and carers of people with complex accessibility needs. Having these facilities on site makes it much easier to plan longer visits or stops on a road trip without worrying about where to find appropriate changing facilities.
Being centrally located on the foreshore, the Playground is also within easy reach of Geraldtonโs cafรฉs, takeaway spots and the wider foreshore walking and cycling paths. It works beautifully as a destination on its own, or as part of a bigger day out exploring the town, grabbing an ice cream, or strolling along the bay.
Overall, Geraldton Foreshore Youth Precinct Playground is a fantastic, activity-packed stop for families. With challenging climbing structures, inclusive equipment, sporty extras for older kids and good amenities nearby, itโs an excellent place to stretch your legs, let the kids run wild and enjoy the coastal setting.
