Floreat Beach Playspace is a brilliant coastal Playground for families, set just behind the dunes at beautiful Floreat Beach. The nature-inspired playspace makes the most of its seaside setting, with plenty to climb, swing on and splash in before or after a dip in the ocean.
The star of the show is the impressive “Kraken” – a giant wooden, cephalopod-style sea creature that wraps around the centre of the Playground. Kids can scramble up, over and through the structure, tackling different climbing challenges before whooshing back down the slide. There’s space to hide in the “belly of the beast”, perfect for imaginative play and a bit of shade on hot days.
The Kraken’s tentacles stretch out to form separate play zones. One tentacle is threaded with ropes and rings, ideal for little monkeys who love to climb and swing.
Another tentacle cradles a small net swing, a lovely spot for children to rock gently while taking in the ocean air.
Nearby, a wooden boat invites budding captains to take charge and “sail” away from sea monsters, adding to the nautical adventure theme.
You’ll also find a small water feature surrounded by rocks, which is a big hit on warm days. Kids love scooping, pouring and redirecting the water to create muddy rivers and sand constructions, so spare clothes or a towel are definitely a good idea.
Around the playspace there are extra nature play elements, including a small wooden jetty and rope obstacles, that encourage balancing, exploring and open-ended play.
The Playground is bordered by a large grassed area, making it easy to spread out with a picnic blanket or kick a ball around between play sessions. There are plenty of picnic tables and barbecues, so it’s a great spot for casual family catch-ups or seaside birthday parties. Shade poles are in place for sails in the hotter months, and public toilets are conveniently close, making it practical for longer stays with young children.
One of the best things about Floreat Beach Playspace is its location right next to The Kiosk Floreat Beach. Parents can grab a takeaway coffee, ice cream or a meal while the kids play, or sit down for something more substantial with a view of the ocean. After a good run around at the Playground, families can wander down the path for a swim, paddle or a leisurely coastal walk along this stunning stretch of Perth’s coastline.
