Calling all climbers! The recently revamped play space at Flinders Park in Hillarys is ideal for kids who love a challenge. The playground reopened several months ago and now boasts various rope ladders and climbing frames, plus balance and stepping logs for kids to test their agility.
The play structures are best suited to older children but my toddler was still able to climb up some of the ladders and enjoy the slides. Underneath is a pretend โstoreโ where all ages can employ their imagination. There is ample space for digging and sand play so itโs a good idea to bring a bucket and spade.
The playground also comprises a swing set with an infant swing seat, perfect for occupying big and little kids, as well as a nature play area.
Young children will need some help navigating the tangle of wooden logs, but older ones are sure to have fun trying to keep their balance and jump between the timbers.
A highlight of the park is the addition of a small jump bike track for little riders alongside the play space. My toddler needed some assistance with the trike over the hills, which surprisingly generated a bit of speed! Practised riders will have a blast zooming around the track.
Flinders Park is popular among dog walkers and has a large oval with plenty of space to kick and throw a ball. Nearby is a couple of ponds that we enjoyed wandering over to spy some ducks and water birds. With lots to explore and occupy the kids, it is easy to spend a few hours here, and the old trees retained throughout the playground give plenty of shade.
There is no shortage of great parks around Hillarys, but Flinders Park is worthy of adding to your list to visit.
