Bristlebird Park, previously known as Escarpment Park, is a fantastic community playspace nestled in the Alkimos Beach estate, a short drive north of Perth. Set along Bristlebird Circuit, this park has a lovely open feel, with a mix of sand, grass and softfall making it welcoming for families with toddlers through to schoolโaged kids. A wide pathway loops around the space, perfect for little ones to zoom around on scooters and bikes while older siblings tackle the climbing equipment.

The hero of Bristlebird Park is the impressive tubular slide and timber cubby house โfortressโ perched up on the escarpment-style mound. Kids can scramble up via ladders and climbing elements before whooshing back down the big enclosed slide. The elevated structure, rocky edging and ropes make it ideal for imaginative pirate adventures, castle games or superhero missions, and itโs one of those play features that keeps kids going back โjust one more timeโ.

Around the main fort are lots of interesting play pieces you donโt see everywhere. There are chunky rope nets for Spiderman-style climbs, balance elements and a big rope hammock to clamber over or just flop into for a rest.

The park caters well for a range of ages with three different swings โ a baby/toddler seat, a standard swing and a large flat circular swing that can be shared by siblings or used by older kids who like to lie back and sway.

Families will appreciate the wide, open grassed areas that fan out from the Playground. Thereโs plenty of space for ball games, chasing, or laying out a picnic rug, and the park includes shaded picnic tables for more comfortable snacking or birthday party setups. Barbecues, drinking fountains and sheltered seating dotted around Bristlebird Park make it easy to settle in for a few hours and turn a quick play into a relaxed family visit. Toilet facilities are located close by, a big win when youโre visiting with younger children.

Bristlebird Park also forms part of the Alkimos Beach interpretive trail network. Itโs one of the key stops on the Family Loop Trail, with interpretive signage sharing stories about Noongar culture, local history and the estateโs sustainability features. If youโve got older kids who enjoy a walk or scooter ride, you can link your Playground visit with nearby parks, lookouts and bike/scooter paths for a longer outing.
With its creative climbing equipment, big slide, scooterโfriendly paths, open lawns and handy facilities, Bristlebird Park is a brilliant neighbourhood Playground for Alkimos locals and well worth a drive for families exploring Perthโs northern coastal suburbs. Whether youโre stopping in for a quick play after school or planning a relaxed weekend picnic, this coastal community park has everything you need for an easy, familyโfriendly outing.
