The Caterpillar Playground in Mandurah, also known as Milgar Street Reserve, is a muchโloved local favourite, and itโs easy to see why. Tucked just off Park Road with plenty of parking, this colourful, fully fenced Playground makes an ideal spot for families with younger children, especially if you have a โrunnerโ who likes to explore. Thereโs also pedestrian access from Reserve Drive, which is handy if youโre walking or cycling through the area. Do be aware that on weekends it can get busy, as the Playground sits right next to the BMX track and parking can fill quickly during events or training.

One of the biggest drawcards for parents is the secure layout. With the exception of the public toilets, separate Playground and basketball courts, the main Caterpillar Playground area is enclosed with tall safety gates designed to stop little escape artists in their tracks.

Once inside, youโll find a leafy, shaded space with plenty of mature trees and shade sails, helping to keep things cooler and more comfortable on warm Mandurah days. Bench seating is dotted throughout, and there are dedicated undercover picnic shelters with tables and benches, including one area equipped with two barbecues, making this a great spot for birthday parties or relaxed family catchโups.

The Playground has a fun mix of equipment that caters to different ages and abilities.
Classic Playground favourites are a huge part of the appeal at Caterpillar Playground and are likely to be the first thing your kids spot when they race through the gate. Little thrillโseekers will be drawn to the flying fox, perfect for whooshing across the Playground and feeling that rush of wind in their hair.

There are multiple slides to choose from, so children can go again and again without too much waiting, and standard swings that are always busy with kids seeing how high they can go.

Monkey bars and a spinning climbing frame challenge balance, strength and coordination, giving older or more confident children something a bit more adventurous to tackle.

There is a sensory play area, which is ideal for children who enjoy exploring different textures and interactive elements.

Thereโs also a floorโlevel merryโgoโround thatโs easier for all ages to access, and a small nest swing that allows kids to swing alone or together.

There are also lots of nooks for climbing, scrambling and digging, giving kids plenty of scope for imaginative play and burning off energy.

Sporty kids will love the section with three differentโheight basketball hoops, perfect for practising shooting skills regardless of age or ability.

A real highlight from an inclusivity point of view is the liberty swing, designed for adults or children who use a wheelchair. This makes Caterpillar Playground a genuinely allโabilities space, with options that allow more children to join in the fun.

The broader reserve also includes extra play and recreation areas and basketball courts outside the main fenced zone, giving older kids and teens more room to spread out.
Facilities at Caterpillar Playground are well thought out for families. The toilets are located just outside the main fenced area and are generally kept tidy and well maintained. There is a separate parent/accessible toilet with plenty of room and a bench for nappy changes, which is especially helpful if youโre visiting with a baby or toddler. A drinking fountain is available inside the park so you can easily refill drink bottles during your visit. With its combination of fencing, shade, accessible features, varied play equipment and familyโfriendly facilities, Caterpillar Playground is an excellent choice for a play date, picnic or an easy stopโoff when youโre in Mandurah.
