If you’re looking for a playground that truly caters to everyone—from toddlers to grandparents—Ballajura Intergenerational Playspace – Weitj Park is a must-visit. This $6.5 million playspace on Oxleigh Drive, Ballajura, is thoughtfully designed to encourage active play, creativity and social connection across all generations.
With three distinct play areas—Parkland, Industrial Vibe and Nature Play—Weitj Park offers shared play experiences that set it apart from other Perth playgrounds. Whether it’s grandparents swinging their grandkids, parents and children racing through the ninja course or toddlers making new friends while building a cubby, this space brings families and the community together in a way that few playgrounds do.
As a mum and teacher, I love seeing spaces like this that promote imaginative play, physical development, risk-taking in a safe environment and inclusive play for all abilities.
Three Incredible Play Zones
Parkland: Open Space for All
The Parkland area offers wide-open space to run, play and relax.
- Flying Fox – A thrilling ride over the bark softfall.
- Multi-Swing Set – Perfect for group play.
- Outdoor Gym – Features a shoulder press, body twist and tai chi wheels—great for parents and grandparents to stay active while kids play.
- Rock Climbing Wall – Encourages strength and coordination.
- Large Lawn Area – Ideal for picnics, ball games and birthday parties.
Industrial Vibe: Adventure Awaits!
For kids who love big, exciting challenges, this section won’t disappoint.
Ninja Assault Course – Includes climbing nets, ring bridge, balancing poles and a warped wall. We saw parents and kids racing each other, competing, supporting and cheering each other on—true intergenerational play.
Massive Multi-Play Tower – A multi-level shipping container-inspired structure with:
Two tunnel slides at different heights
A climbing tunnel with rock holds
Rope access points, stairs and a slanted climbing wall
Underneath fun: balancing poles, a snake rope with an overhead ring bridge and a climbing wall
Trampolines – Two single inground trampolines.
Sand Factory – Features pulleys, a conveyor belt and levers—a STEM lover’s dream for fine motor skills and problem-solving.
Toddler Play Area – A lower play structure under shade sails, accessible by:
Ramp, stairs, balancing steps and a mini rock climbing wall
Slide, spinning wheel, coloured binoculars and interactive play panels, including an animal match game
All-Ability Play Features – Ensuring everyone can join in the fun:
Basket swing, boat swing, baby swing
Universal carousel
Play panels featuring tic-tac-toe and a colour, shape and counting match game.
Some areas, including the toddler structure, swings and sand play, are shaded by shade sails.
Nature Play: The Ultimate Sensory Experience
A beautiful space for quiet play, creativity and connection with nature.
Cubby Building – We built a cubby and even pretended to roast marshmallows on a ‘fire’. Another toddler joined in and reminded us of the dangers of getting too close.
Balance Trail & Stilts – Helps kids build coordination and confidence.
Dry Creek Bed & Water Play – A push-button tap adds water to the creek. A bit tricky for little hands, so accompanying adults often help. Kai spent ages washing rocks and watching the water flow.
Drums & Chimes – A sensory delight for little musicians.
As a teacher, I love how this area fosters problem-solving, creativity and risk assessment—all while keeping kids connected to the outdoors.
Accessibility & Inclusion: A Space for All
Weitj Park is designed to be welcoming for children of all abilities.
- Accessible paths – Easy for wheelchairs and prams, though sand and bark areas are less accessible.
