Army Musuem of Western Australia

The Army Museum of Western Australia in Fremantle shares the history and heritage of the Australian Army through a series of curated galleries and exhibits. Located within the historic Artillery Barracks, the museum presents military stories from pre–World War I through to modern conflicts, with dedicated spaces such as WW1 and WW2 galleries, a Prisoner of War gallery, and a Victoria Cross gallery featuring original VC medals.

Visitors can explore uniforms, equipment, vehicles and interactive displays, with volunteers and Defence personnel on hand to add context and answer questions. The museum welcomes families, school groups and history enthusiasts, with wheelchair access and ACROD parking available on site.

If you’ve got kids who love tanks, big vehicles, uniforms or hands-on history — add this one to your WA list. ✅ What you’ll see: tanks + armoured vehicles on the parade ground (some you can get up close to)
✅ Inside: 10+ galleries from early WA history to WW1, WW2 and modern operations
✅ Kid-friendly: dress-ups, interactive displays + a scavenger hunt (and a little memento at the end!)
⚠️ Note: a few galleries are dark and some stories (POWs/combat) may be intense for sensitive kids. ⏰ Allow around 2 hours (longer if you’ve got history buffs).
🍴 No café — there’s a small gift shop with drinks, so bring snacks and plan food in Freo after. Open: Wed/Thu/Fri/Sun, 10am–3pm (last entry 1pm)
