Koala Cove Park in Movida Estate, Midvale is one of those Playgrounds that kids spot from the car and instantly beg to visit. Tucked within a new residential estate in the City of Swan, this koala‑themed park combines big wow‑factor play equipment with thoughtful touches for younger children, making it a great stop for families exploring Perth’s eastern suburbs and the Swan Valley.

The star of the show is the towering koala climbing structure that rises up in the middle of the park. It’s an eye‑catching centrepiece and a real adventure for confident climbers, with multiple ways to ascend and a thrilling enclosed tunnel slide back to ground level. The slide is better suited to older kids and more adventurous younger ones, as the climb up is quite challenging, but that only adds to the sense of achievement when they reach the top.

Around the main tower you’ll find plenty to keep school‑aged kids busy. There is a flying fox that runs low to the ground, perfect for kids who are still building confidence, and viking‑style rope swings that are ideal for siblings and friends to share. Balancing logs, climbing elements and sand play areas encourage kids to explore, test their coordination and invent their own games. A small loop path weaves through the trees, great for little bikes and scooters doing laps while bigger kids stay on the main equipment.

For families with toddlers, Koala Cove Park really shines thanks to its fully fenced junior play area. This dedicated zone includes a pod swing, toddler swing and a standard swing, plus a double slide with easy stair access. There are also speaking tubes, stepping logs and concrete tunnels to crawl through, which are brilliant for imaginative play and games of hide‑and‑seek. The toddler area is shaded, so it’s a comfortable spot for little ones to potter about while carers can relax a bit more.

Sporty kids aren’t left out either. Beside the Playground sits a multi‑use hard court with three basketball hoops, a netball hoop and two small soccer goals. It’s a handy space for shooting hoops, practising skills or setting up a quick family game. Surrounding the play equipment and court are large grassy areas that invite a kick of the footy, a picnic rug, or simply a good old‑fashioned roll down the hill.

One of the loveliest features of Koala Cove Park is its strong Australian wildlife theme. Scattered throughout the Playground are beautifully carved wooden native animals – think quokkas, kangaroos, wombats, emus and more – plus interpretive signs that share fun facts about each creature. These touches turn a standard park visit into a bit of an outdoor learning experience and spark lots of “spot the animal” games with younger kids

Facilities at Koala Cove Park include shaded picnic tables and BBQs, making it easy to plan a sausage sizzle or casual family gathering. There is a water fountain on site, but reviews have occasionally mentioned issues with fountains not working, so it’s wise to bring filled drink bottles just in case. One important thing to note is that there are no public toilets at the park, which is typical for many small estate Playgrounds. Plan ahead with bathroom stops before you arrive, especially if you’re visiting with newly toilet‑trained toddlers or planning a longer stay.

Shade is mixed across the park. The fenced toddler area and picnic shelters offer good protection, but the main tower, sand and open play spaces can be quite exposed in the middle of the day. In warmer months it’s best to time your visit for early morning or later afternoon, and pack hats, sunscreen and maybe even a spare T‑shirt to throw over hot shoulders. As with any busy suburban park, there can also be the odd bit of litter around; bringing a small rubbish bag and using the available bins helps keep the space pleasant for everyone.
Overall, Koala Cove Park is a fantastic, modern community Playground that offers something for a wide range of ages. The combination of a big “hero” koala tower, a genuinely useful fenced toddler space, sports court, BBQs, and those charming wooden Australian animals means most families will happily spend an hour or two here. If you’re in the eastern suburbs, heading to Midland, or on your way to or from the Swan Valley, it’s well worth adding Koala Cove Park to your list of Playgrounds to explore.

A bit cookie cutter and lots of rubbish strewn everywhere
What is your family’s favourite park to explore?
Bonus if out east but doesn’t have to be
