Wander through the botanic garden and discover the storytelling trees, where immersive narration from scientists and horticulturists will give voice to the plants around you. Learn the deeper story behind our state’s unique and beautiful flora, the researchers working to conserve it for the future, and the intricate nature of our precious environment.

A unique soundscape composed just for Moortabiny will capture the essence of the botanic garden. Plant data from Kings Park scientists has been visualised as music, with tracks based on research into the sap flow of a tree or how often birds visit. This all-new music created by ‘data sonification’ will surround trees around the Pioneer Women’s Memorial and create an emotive backdrop to the narrated drone show. 

The author behind the show, Kim Scott, is acclaimed locally and internationally. He is a descendant of the Noongar people of Western Australia and is a two-time winner of the Miles Franklin Literary Award. Kim’s Moortabiny narration brings Noongar culture together with the significance of the Western Australian Botanic Garden and its biodiversity, crafting an intricate story of nature, Country and Kings Park.
