The weather is cooling off, and as wonderful as that is after the hot summer we’ve had, it also means that flu season is here again.
To safeguard your family’s health as we approach the cooler dry months it is recommended to receive a flu vaccination before the beginning of the flu season.
The WA Government has also recently announced that flu vaccinations will be free again for all WA residents, regardless of Medicare status, throughout May and June, which means it’s as easy as taking the family to your local Pharmacy 777 and getting the vaccination administered while you’re there.
Current flu statistics indicate that there was an increase of 29.25% of influenza cases last year, so it’s increasingly important to protect your family, especially young children from the virus.
We have been experiencing earlier flu seasons since 2022 and with the warmer than average season we are currently experiencing, there is an increased chance of an earlier and more severe influenza season due to the predicted warmer than average Winter season this year.
Pharmacy 777 Pharmacist Jacqueline Tan said, “It’s wise to get the flu vaccine as soon as possible to protect yourself.”
“All patients from age 5 to 64 living in WA can now receive the free flu vaccine as funded by the WA State Government. We encourage you to discuss your vaccine options with your local 777 Pharmacist,” Jacqueline said.
“Pharmacists can also now provide vaccinations for patients who are eligible for government funded vaccines under the National Immunisation Program (NIP). This includes Influenza vaccine recommended for those who are pregnant and can be safely given to expectant mothers. ”
“The best way to protect your family from the flu this season is by getting the flu vaccine. We also recommend checking that your other vaccines, such as COVID-19 are up to date for 2024.”
