West Coast Yoga run Kids Yoga through out the school term and is targeted towards children aged 8 to 12 years. Yoga helps kids achieve a sound mind in a sound body by exercising the physical body and calming the mental spirit. Yoga is something children can practice anywhere and that the breathing, the concentration, the poses, and the way kids learn to act or react to situations, will lead to constant self-discovery and inquisitiveness. One of the beauties of the physical practice of yoga is that the Asana (poses) support and sustains you no matter how old or young, or fit or frail. The more you practice, your understanding of Asana becomes more sophisticated. You move from working on the external alignment and mechanics of the pose to refining the inner actions to finally just being in the Asana.
Yoga is a practice of transforming and benefitting every aspect of life, not just the 60 minutes spent on the mat. If we can learn to be kind, truthful and use our energy in a worthwhile way, we will not only benefit ourselves with our practice, but everything and everyone around us too.
