In the heart of Armadale youโll find Memorial Park, a leafy, central Playground with a fun train theme thatโs a hit with kids of all ages. The park was redeveloped with a vintage railway feel โ perfect if your little ones love trains, climbing and imaginative play, and you want somewhere with plenty of grass and shade to relax.

The centrepiece of the Playground is the big train-shaped play frame and โstationโ. The train is styled like an old steam engine, complete with platform steps to climb aboard. Kids can crawl through the tunnel where the boiler would be, clamber up small rope ladders at the front, or even hide underneath the carriage where itโs hollow behind the wheels.

Right beside it is the wooden station, with seating and a ticket window featuring a clock โ ideal for role play as children buy tickets, wait for their train and act out their own journeys.

An antique-style signal and train-line markings in the softfall continue the railway atmosphere.

For younger children, thereโs a small slide set in sand next to the train. This area includes some simple nature play elements, such as balancing logs, and an abacus made from colourful blocks to spin and count.

A quirky four-seater spring rocker with egg-shaped seats adds another fun option for toddlers and preschoolers who enjoy rocking rides with siblings or friends.

Older or more confident climbers are well catered for with a taller, twisting slide. To reach the top platform, kids can challenge themselves on a wooden climbing wall, a log ladder or a rope net ladder. The different options mean children can gradually build their confidence and coordination.

Nearby, a tall firemanโs pole with a ramp ladder and rope handholds provides an extra thrill for kids who are ready for a slightly more adventurous climb and slide back down.

There are several swing options scattered through the park. A wooden swing set near the main play area offers two regular swings and a toddler seat. A little further back youโll find a large birdโs nest swing โ always popular for group play, lying back and relaxing, or swinging together with a friend or sibling.

Adding to the physical challenge is a striking climbing frame built from three multi-sided geometric shapes covered in hand and footholds. From a distance it looks more like a modern art sculpture than play equipment, but up close itโs a great test of balance and strength, best suited to older, more agile kids who enjoy bouldering-style climbing.

For kids who love sand play, Memorial Park also features a sand table with two bowls for collecting sand and a bucket that can be slid up a rail to tip and pour. Itโs an inviting setup for digging, transporting and making sandy creations, and a good spot for little ones who like slower, sensory play away from the busier climbing structures.

True to its name, the park also incorporates a significant war memorial which honours fallen soldiers. This is the focal point for local Anzac Day services and can be a thoughtful place to talk about history and remembrance with older children who show an interest.

One of the big advantages of Memorial Park is its central location. It backs directly onto Armadale Central Shopping Centre, putting cafes, food outlets and toilets within easy reach โ handy for grabbing coffee, snacks or a quick lunch, and for access to indoor bathroom facilities. Thereโs also Bello Cafรฉ on one corner of the park, with both indoor and outdoor seating, making it easy to combine a Playground visit with a cafรฉ catch-up. If you prefer to BYO, there are generous grassed areas throughout the park, ideal for throwing down a picnic rug.

Shading is generally good thanks to the many mature trees surrounding the park. The train and nature play areas in particular benefit from tree cover, though some of the newer or taller equipment may be more exposed at certain times of day or times of year, so itโs still wise to bring hats and sunscreen.
Memorial Park is not fenced, although it is set back from the surrounding roads. Because nearby streets can be busy, itโs important to keep a close eye on toddlers or children who tend to run off. Within the park itself, thereโs plenty of open lawn and space to spread out, so families can usually find a comfortable spot to sit where they can still supervise play.
For families with a mix of ages, itโs useful to know that thereโs an additional skate and bike park across the road on Orchard Avenue, behind the City of Armadale offices. This makes Memorial Park a good meet-in-the-middle location if you have younger children who want the Playground and older kids or teens who would prefer to ride or skate but still be nearby.

With its engaging train theme, variety of play equipment for different ages, good shade and convenient access to shops, cafes and toilets, Memorial Park is a great all-round family stop in Armadale โ whether youโre a local or visiting the area.

Love this park. Great place for kids of most ages and abilities. There is a toilet and cafe near by. Play equipment, grassed areas and seating in shade. The only downside is no gate. Great for times of the day. Love it.
