If youโre looking for a Playground that combines great coffee, city convenience and a genuinely inclusive play space, Oxford Street Reserve in Leederville is hard to beat. Tucked just off the bustling Leederville cafรฉ strip, this fully fenced and gated Playground offers a calm little oasis right in the heart of the action, making it an ideal stop for families before or after a meal or a bit of shopping.

The Playground sits directly alongside Cranked Coffee, so grabbing a takeaway latte or a relaxed sitโdown breakfast or lunch is wonderfully easy. Inside the cafรฉ there are plenty of high chairs and space to park a pram, making it very family friendly. Their coffee is consistently good, and favourites like the Granola Jar and Eggs Benedict are popular choices if you have time to linger.

If youโd rather bring your own snacks, there are picnic tables in the paved area between Cranked and the Playground where you can unpack a lunchbox while still being right next to the play space.

One of the standout features of Oxford Street Reserve is how accessible it is. Wide ramps lead into and around the main play structure, allowing families to wheel in prams or wheelchairs without fuss. On the ramp levels there are several play elements that can be enjoyed at seated height, including a large wooden xylophone, speaking tubes and a spinning activity panel. This thoughtful layout makes it a welcoming space for children of all abilities to play alongside siblings and friends.

At the heart of the structure is a broad, threeโabreast slide, perfect for siblings or friends to race each other down at the same time and hopefully avoid arguments over whose turn it is next.

At one end, a โcastleโ style tower adds a sense of adventure. Itโs enclosed at the top and accessed via a rockโclimbing style wall that will appeal most to slightly older or more confident kids, probably from about four years and up. Younger children may need a boost, but once theyโre up there it becomes a great little lookout. Beneath the structure, a tunnel runs under the โcastleโ, ideal for imaginative games of hideโandโseek or pretend play.

The Playground also incorporates some lovely nature play elements. Outside the main ramped area, children can balance along beams and clamber over rocks. Many of the boulders are capped with a nonโslip softโfall style surface to help prevent slips, and some of the timber beams are mounted on springs to add a bit of wobble and challenge for more adventurous kids.

A separate wooden and rope climbing structure gives children a chance to practise their climbing and coordination skills without being too overwhelming for younger ages.

Youโll also find a small sandpit, edged with logs that double as seating. The sand area includes more speaking tubes that link back up to the tubes on the ramped structure, which is a fun way for kids to experiment with sound and call to each other from different parts of the Playground. Bringing a small bucket and spade or a few toy trucks is a great way to extend the play here.

Just beyond the fenced Playground is a paved square that adds even more options for families. Here there are outdoor tables fitted with chess boards if you have a set to bring along, plus a permanent ping pong table. Bats and balls for table tennis can be borrowed from Cranked Coffee, making it easy to entertain older children or teens while younger siblings stay in the Playground. A little further along again youโll find a barbecue and water fountains, sitting next door to a skate park. The skate park is close enough that tweens and teens can scoot or skate while remaining within easy walking distance of the Playground, so families with a range of ages can all be catered for in the one spot.

Practicalities are well covered too. The reserve is close to Leederville Train Station, just across the pedestrian bridge, so itโs easy to reach by public transport if you donโt want to drive. If you are coming by car, there is plenty of parking in the surrounding streets and car parks โ just be sure to check local signage for time limits and ticketed bays. The Playground is fully fenced, which is reassuring if youโre visiting with toddlers or children who like to wander, and there are toilets available in the surrounding precinct. Shade, seating and the mix of equipment all help make it a comfortable spot to spend an hour or two.
Overall, Oxford Street Reserve Playground offers a great blend of accessible play equipment, nature play, and nearby amenities. It works beautifully as a quick coffeeโandโplay stop, a preโdinner runโaround before visiting one of Leedervilleโs many eateries, or even as a small community event space. With its combination of ramps, musical and sensory features, nature elements and the bonus of chess tables, table tennis and a skate park nearby, itโs a versatile innerโcity Playground that suits toddlers through to teens and their grownโups.
