Biodiversity Month

September 1 @ 8:00 am - September 30 @ 8:00 pm
Free

September is Biodiversity Month, and this year the City of Cockburn is putting the spotlight on ecosystems, our wetlands, bushland and coastline.

An ecosystem is a community of living organisms, including plants, animals and microorganisms, interacting with each other and with their non‑living environment such as sunlight, soil, water and air. Cockburn’s ecosystems support a rich diversity of life and play a vital role in maintaining a healthy, resilient environment.

Throughout September, the City will host a series of events, workshops and activities to help the community learn about, connect with and take meaningful action to support the natural environments that make up Cockburn and the wildlife that depends on them. Whether you’re a seasoned nature‑lover or simply curious about your local area, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved.

September also marks National Biodiversity Month, a time to recognise the importance of Australia’s diverse plants, animals and ecosystems. The City of Cockburn manages nearly 100 bushland reserves, including coastal, wetland and upland areas. Together with ecological linkages across developed areas, these spaces provide essential habitat for native plants and animals and support wildlife movement across the landscape.

There’s a mix of drop in and pop up events with some event registrations opening throughout September. Check back regularly for the latest updates.
