Avondale Park in Mindarie is one of those quietly excellent Playgrounds thatโs been doing its job well for years. It may not be the flashiest or most high-tech play space, but if you value shade, space, and practical family-friendly design, this park definitely deserves a spot on your list.
Located in a coastal suburb, Avondale Park is easy to combine with a bigger day out. You can start with a play at the park, then head to the nearby beach, or finish off with a coffee or meal at Sistas Mindarie at the Mindarie Marina, just a few minutesโ drive away. Itโs a great base for a relaxed, low-stress family outing.
Parking is straightforward, with the park offering its own dedicated parking area. Several bays are shaded by mature trees, which is a welcome bonus on hot days when youโre loading and unloading kids, prams and bags. The surrounding paved paths are ideal for scooters, bikes, and prams, giving children freedom to zoom around the open areas while still being close enough for parents and carers to comfortably supervise.

Shade is where Avondale Park really shines. You can genuinely visit in the middle of the day, even at peak sun, and still feel reasonably comfortable. Large, established trees surround the Playground, creating natural shade throughout much of the day, and this is supported by shade sails over key play areas. Most of the equipment stays cool and safe to touch, which is impressive given how much of it is metal. The only piece that tends to sit in full sun is the rocker seat, so itโs worth a quick hand-check on very hot days.

The play equipment offers a well-rounded mix of sensory, physical, and imaginative play, making it suitable for a wide age range. Younger children will enjoy the double swing, the alphabet game board, and the musical interaction station, which invites little ones to experiment with sounds in a xylophone-style setup.

Older or more confident kids are drawn to the main climbing structure, which is packed with features to explore. This includes a spiral tunnel slide, a swinging wooden and rope bridge, monkey bars, a mini zipline, wooden ramp, stairs, a vertical rope tunnel and a small rock climbing wall.

There are plenty of handholds, rails and gripping points throughout, making it excellent for toddlers who are still building confidence, as well as bigger kids who love a good climbing challenge and more adventurous play.

Underfoot, the entire play area is laid with soft fall flooring, offering a safer surface for active play and tumbles. Beyond the main equipment, there is lots of open grass where families can spread out a picnic rug, kick a ball, or simply enjoy some relaxed free play.

Benches are scattered throughout the park, giving caregivers several vantage points to sit and watch the kids without needing to hover right over them.

One important thing to note is the lack of amenities: there are no toilets and no water fountain at Avondale Park. Youโll need to bring your own water bottles and plan bathroom breaks either before you arrive or at nearby venues, such as the Mindarie Marina. This is worth factoring in if youโre visiting with toilet-training toddlers or planning to stay for an extended period.
Avondale Park may not have huge statement pieces or brand-new equipment, but it excels where it counts for families: shade, safety, space, and a thoughtful layout that works for mixed ages. Itโs the kind of Playground locals return to again and again, especially on hot days when covered play is a must. For a relaxed coastal outing thatโs easy, comfortable, and kid-approved, Avondale Park is a hidden gem in Mindarie thatโs well worth revisiting.
