Regardless of whether you are looking for sweet or savoury, filling or light, vegetarian or even vegan options, there is something for everyone here.

Read on to get inspired and start mixing up your kids’ breakfast routines. Remember to vary your children’s breakfast in order to keep them interested in their morning meal and expose them to a range of tastes and nutrients.

Banana Pancakes

Let’s start with our most simple cooked breakfast suggestion. These delicious banana pancakes have only two ingredients: eggs and a banana. This option is particularly good if you or your children are gluten-free or lactose intolerant, as unlike regular pancakes, flour and milk are not included.

For every banana you use, you add two eggs. One portion (for one child) consists of one banana and two eggs. You mash the banana and whisk the eggs, mix them together and cook the pancake mix as you would with ordinary pancakes. Add fruit, syrup or Nutella to suit the tastes of your kids.

Avocado On Toast

Simple and nutritious, avocado on toast is a staple in many homes and provides a filling breakfast for your kids, complete with healthy fats and carbohydrates. Simply mash an avocado and add it to a piece of wholemeal toasted bread.

You can add bacon, smoked salmon, poached eggs or some seasoning to the avocado for more flavour. Including protein in your breakfast will keep your kids full for longer and ensure they are getting the necessary growth and repair nutrients they need.

Smoothie Bowl

If you want to ensure your kids get their daily dose of fruit and fibre, a smoothie bowl is a super fresh, tasty and healthy way to achieve this. You can make this refreshing breakfast keto-friendly as well, if you want to limit their carb intake. You can add ingredients such as frozen berries, spinach, protein powder and even frozen cauliflower to a blender and mix until the smoothie is thick and has no lumps. Then, add fruits, seeds or coconut slices as toppings to complete the bowl.

This breakfast is a great vegan option and if you avoid the seeds or nuts on top can be good for kids with common food allergies too.

Overnight Oats

This is a great option if you don’t have a lot of time to prepare breakfast in the mornings. You can make your overnight oats in the evening and they will be good to go in the morning. You will need rolled oats (gluten-free), oat milk, and your choice of extras. You can add chia seed, golden flax seed, pumpkin puree for an autumn pumpkin spice flavour, maple syrup, peanut butter and any fruits you would like.

Add yoghurt in the morning, dairy-free if needed, and you have breakfast ready in minutes!

French Toast

This breakfast classic should not be overlooked. French toast is a classic morning meal for good reason – it is delicious, quick and easy to make. This might not be the healthiest option on the list but it serves as a great special treat.

You need eggs, bread, milk, cream, vanilla extract and cinnamon. Soak your bread in the rest of your ingredients, fry it in butter for three minutes on each side, and serve your toast with fruits to add the necessary nutrients to your tasty breakfast treat.

Egg Muffins

This is a fun breakfast food that incorporates the delicious taste of your favourite omelette breakfast with the pleasing shape of a muffin. To make this tasty breakfast food, grease a muffin tray and chop onions, bell peppers and bacon into small pieces. Mix the chopped foods in a bowl of beaten eggs and add milk. You can also add grated cheese and seasoning, such as salt, pepper and garlic powder for more flavour.

Pour the mix into the muffin tray compartments and bake the egg muffins for around 30 minutes at 350 degrees F. Check they are cooked by inserting a toothpick into the centre of one of the muffins. If it comes out clean, the muffin is cooked through.
