Opportunity Playspace at Rotary Park has long been one of Wanneroo’s most beloved playgrounds. After visiting again following the upgrade completed in October 2026, it’s easy to see why this space continues to draw families back year after year.

Originally opened in 1979, the park still carries a sense of character, with majestic, mature trees. There’s been a complete upgrade to about 95% of the equipment, across themed play zones designed for all ages and abilities.
The Fort is now a large mostly-metal play structure with some timber elements. While the materials mean it can get warm on hot days, the structure stays true to the original layout with multiple access points, platforms and levels that encourage exploration and active play.
Kids can access the structure via the ramp, rope climbing nets, triangular obstacle poles, or the wall-mounted climbing handles and bars before sliding back down via the fireman’s pole.
There are four slides to choose from, including a small straight slide, a medium double wave slide and a large, enclosed tube slide reached via a grid rope floor. Safety has clearly been considered, with a gated section at the top of the rock-climbing wall to prevent accidental falls.
Sound and sensory play is woven throughout the structure with speaking tubes and a large red xylophone, while built-in canopies and shade sails provide partial protection from the sun. Despite the upgrade, the playground still feels familiar – a little older in charm but clearly cared for.
An Imagination Play Zone with cute mini-town and sand play is superb for toddlers.
With cafes, train station and more, it will lead to plenty of little ones using their big imaginations and making mud pies for the cafe. There’s interactive games like connect four too.
A dedicated Toddler Play Area has mini slide and easily accessible equipment for little ones.
With soft play and cute rockers, they’re sure to have safe, confidence building fun.
A small bike/scooter path is an easy, flat loop for younger kids that are building confidence on wheels.
A Nature Play Area helps with free-form play to connect with the outdoors. The riverbed style area has lots of stepping logs to navigate.
For older kids, the Swings Area has a mix of traditional and inclusive options. There’s a spinner, long rope swing and cool hexagon shaped swinging structure so you can swing while chatting to your mates!
Of course, there’s a popular nest swing too.
Adding to the accessible options, another spinner has wheelchair and stroller access.
Thrill seekers will love climbing high on the spider climbing nets.
… including a tunnel style climbing net.
Rotary Park remains ideal for picnics, birthday parties and long visits, with three large shelters, BBQs (some accessible), toilets, drinking fountains and a bike repair station. Wide paved paths connecting each play zone.
The park is fenced and gated with pool fence stle gates. It has its own car park, and sits close to Lake Joondalup, so families should remain vigilant for snakes, particularly in warmer months. On busy weekends, the space is lively with parties, and the occasional coffee or ice-cream van. Excite coffee, opposite Hungry Jacks in Wanneroo is a good option for great drive through coffee on the way.
Opportunity Playspace is still a destination playground – one that blends inclusivity and adventure for all. Pack the picnic blanket, gather the kiddos, and come explore one of the best playgrounds in the northern suburbs.
