Whitby Playground in Whitby is a hidden gem for families who love nature play and a bit of adventure. Around 40 minutes south-east of Perth, the Playground sits alongside a nature walk trail, so itโs easy to turn a simple park visit into a longer explore with the kids. The whole space has a very natural, earthy feel with lots of timber, stone and sand, making it ideal for imaginative play and active kids who like to climb, balance and scramble.

The main play area is built into soft fall climbing mounds with two large slides that are sure to be a hit with preschoolers and older children. Kids can clamber up the slopes, race their friends down the slides and loop back around again, burning plenty of energy in the process. There are tunnels to clamber over or crawl through, adding an extra element of fun and a sense of discovery as they pop out the other side.

A standout feature of Whitby Playground is the strong focus on balance and coordination. A wooden balance structure invites kids to tiptoe, climb, hang and test their skills, while stepping logs scattered through the play space create simple obstacle courses for little legs.

Thereโs also a digger set in the sand, perfect for children who love construction play and getting hands-on in the dirt.

Youโll find a small swing zone with two standard swings and a net (basket) swing, giving options for both younger and older kids to enjoy.

The Playground also includes a water play element; however, this has previously been out of order and may not always be operating, so itโs best to come expecting mainly dry play and treat water play as a bonus if it happens to be working on the day.

Whitby Playground is well set up for families wanting to stay a while. There are BBQ facilities and plenty of seating, making it easy to cook up a sausage sizzle or enjoy a picnic lunch while the children play. Mature trees around the park provide generous natural shade, and thereโs a grassed area ideal for ball games, spreading out a picnic rug or just relaxing while the kids explore. A drinking fountain is available on site, which is handy on hot days if you run low on water.

Being a neighbourhood Playground rather than a large regional park, Whitby Playground has a peaceful, community feel. Itโs a great option if youโre exploring the Whitby or Mundijong area or looking to try a different nature Playground within a reasonable drive of Perth. With its blend of climbing, sliding, balancing and digging, it suits a range of ages, especially active toddlers through to primary school kids who enjoy more adventurous play in a natural setting.
