The Veterans Memorial Park Port Kennedy has something to suit the whole family, from tiny tots to teens! The large park includes two playgrounds, the new-ish Port Kennedy skate park and a memorial dedicated to our war veterans.
The city of Rockingham’s largest skate park features lots of trails, bowls, ramps and an adjacent snake run. Though it’s very popular it’s large enough to ensure plenty of room. There was a mix of younger children on scooters, as well as teens busting moves on their skateboards.
There are covered seating areas for parents and kids to have a break from the sun and watch. Bike racks and drink fountains are also handy inclusions.
A basketball hoop and half court is found at one end of the skate park.
Veterans Memorial Park has not one, but two play areas. The play area nearest the skate park is perfect for kids that love to climb.
As well as plenty of climbing nets, this playground has a few unique features that I’ve never seen anywhere else – including a seated flying fox that’s low to the ground.
Another traditional style metal play ground is found a little further away. Shaded by sails, this sanded area includes equipment most suited to younger children.
There’s small slides, little rock walls, a nest swing, climbing net that’s low to the ground, musical equipment and more.
The memorial includes tributes on the Port Kennedy RSL Wall, as well as an impressive tank and an artillery piece.
There’s plenty of open grassed area to have a kick about too. A free BBQ and covered tables makes the park an ideal picnic spot. The public toilets will come in handy too. Veterans Memorial Park Port Kennedy is a good spot for children to play, scoot and even learn a little history.
