Tucked into the coastal Golden Bay estate, Treehouse Cove Playground is a fantastic destination park for families who love nature play with a bit of adventure. Opened in midโ2022, the space is wrapped around existing coastal bushland and rehabilitation planting, so it feels like youโre playing in a pocket of natural dunes rather than a standard suburban park. Thereโs plenty of open grass for a runaround, a kick of the footy or a picnic rug, along with picnic tables and BBQs for longer visits.

The hero of the park is the impressive multi-storey treehouse tower, which is a dream come true for confident climbers. Kids can test their courage on rope bridges, net tunnels and rope ladders, or scramble up the climbing elements underneath the structure before choosing one of the big tunnel slides back down to the sand. Itโs the kind of play equipment that really encourages problem-solving and builds stamina, and it will easily keep school-aged kids busy for ages.

The play experience is enhanced further with inclusive and dynamic equipment such as the Dancing Snake swing, which works as both a swing and a spinner, a wide net seesaw that several kids can share, and an accessible carousel that can accommodate wheelchairs, prams and carers, helping more children join in the fun together. Youโll also find bright outdoor drums and a sculptural xylophone-style instrument, so kids can add a soundtrack to their playtime while exploring different sounds and rhythms.

Treehouse Cove has a strong focus on nature and sensory play throughout the park. Children can balance along stepping logs, cross a wobbly wooden bridge, and challenge their coordination on various timber features, including a classic wooden noughts-and-crosses game. From the broader park design down to the equipment colours, everything leans into a beachy, coastal theme that ties in beautifully with Golden Bayโs seaside location and natural surroundings.

Younger children arenโt forgotten, with a dedicated toddler zone set slightly away from the larger tower. This space includes soft-fall mounds for safe tumbling, a smaller double slide, spring rockers and musical play so little ones can bang out a rhythm while older siblings tackle the big tower. The mix of sand, soft fall and gentle slopes makes it a friendly space for new walkers and cautious climbers.

Alongside the equipment, the park offers a generous expanse of turf, picnic tables and BBQs, making it easy to settle in for a relaxed morning or afternoon. However, there are a couple of practical points to keep in mind. At the time of writing there are no public toilets within the Playground itself, so youโll want to plan ahead, especially with younger children. Shade is also fairly limited, particularly over some of the play equipment, so hats, sunscreen and water bottles are essential on warm days.

One of the unique bonuses of visiting Treehouse Cove Playground is Golden Bayโs own version of โJacobs Ladderโ, a substantial staircase built into the landscape that rewards climbers with sweeping 360โdegree views over the coastline and the growing Golden Bay community. Older kids, teens and adults can tack on a few laps of the stairs for a workout, or simply climb once to take in the outlook before heading back down to the Playground.

Treehouse Cove Playground works well as a destination in its own right or as part of a bigger day out in Golden Bay and the surrounding coastal suburbs. With its adventurous treehouse tower, thoughtful toddler area, strong nature-play focus and inclusive design touches, itโs a great spot to burn off energy and enjoy some fresh sea air.
