If you’re in the Margaret River region and looking for a playground where kids can burn off energy, (that’s NOT at a brewery or winery) Riflebutts Reserve in Prevelly is the perfect stop. This new playground, nestled amongst dunes near the beach, is a great spot for families to relax outdoors.
The play space, inspired by historic beach shacks, has nature play elements including timber steppers, logs and more.
The playground has something for most ages, with equipment designed to entertain and challenge.
From climbing walls to nest swings, parent-todler swings, slides, and imaginative play areas, there’s plenty to keep little kids busy.
The woodchip base ensures safe play, and the shaded areas are perfect for those warm summer days. The “Spinny thing” was the most popular part of the playground.
There’s a few interactive games too, to puzzle little kids.
Facilities include Sheltered picnic tables, BBQs and toilets.
Riflebutts Reserve is conveniently located near Surfers Point and Rivermouth Beach, so you can easily combine a play session with a beach outing. Bring along a picnic rug and some snacks, as there’s plenty of grassy space and BBQs for a relaxed family picnic. Alternatively, grab some food from the nearby Surfers Point food trucks or local Sea Garden Café (with the cool surfboard wall) – perfect for keeping everyone fueled up.
For me, the larger-than-life statue of a man and his dog, is a highlight. Created by artist Russell Sheridan, his sculpture “The Stick” celebrates man’s best friend, and is just beautiful!
Located in one of the area’s main dog exercise areas, the adjoining beach is for dog friendly too. If you have kids that are wary of dogs, it’s worth noting that there are loads of dogs at this reserve.
Riflebutts Reserve Playground is a must-visit spot for families in the Margaret River area. With its new equipment, and close beach access, it’s a great place to enjoy with the kids for a couple of hours.
