Tucked away in the heart of Gosnells, amongst 22 hectares of wetlands at Mary Carroll Park, you’ll find the brand new all-abilities playground. This new gem blends nature and learning, offering kids a fun and educational space to connect with the outdoors.
Street parking and a small car park are available along Eudoria Street in Gosnells. The playground is fully fenced (a must if you have an escape artist like I do) with 2 entry/exit gates at either end. Toilets are located next to the carpark just outside of the fence, a good idea to make sure everyone goes before heading in
We visited on a very hot 35-degree day and were surprised at how much shade the playground offers! It’s not often that you find decent shade at parks these days, so we were thrilled to find some much-needed relief from the sun. There are a lot of native trees surrounding the playground, undercover picnic tables with BBQS and some absolutely beautiful shade sails over the play equipment itself which local Noongar artist Tamara Hayden designed.
The playground beautifully encompasses different nature elements. The colour choices alone screamed nature to me: earthy browns, vibrant greens, calming blues and warm yellows. Wooden play equipment, natural tree logs and rocks to explore, with a mixture of bark and soft fall surfaces on the ground, creating the perfect environment.
One of the biggest play areas is the giant Gilgie structure (it’s a crayfish for those who, like me, had no idea ). This area is fantastic for climbers! With a mixture of rope and rock climbing-type steps, which lead you up to 2 different speedy slides.
Across from that is my son’s favourite area! A wooden play fort with a trusty green slide. There are multiple rope ladders to climb up onto or, for the smaller kiddies, a wooden ramp to follow all the way around. This area is jam-packed with things to see! There’s a bird search and find game with a map of birds to find which are scattered around this section only.
There is a wooden ladder with information about the Noongar seasons on each rung, there are spinning cubes with information about the Noongar language, and there is a play kitchen area underneath with information about bush tucker and Noongar signs.
They have six season spinners, a flying fox with different seat options, a nest swing, rope swing, tandem swing, lounge swing, and if that wasn’t enough, your normal swing set with a baby seat too.
There are traditional monkey bars, horizontal monkey bars, talk tubes, a musical area with pipes and paddles, a huge see-saw, individual rocker animals, spinning seats, a carousel spinner, a tortoise sculpture, and even a gym area tailored towards the seniors.
If you still have some energy to get out after all that, take a short walk out of the playground and along the footpath to the pedestrian bridge, which takes you out over the wetlands and to a viewing platform. You can continue from there over a second bridge, which has some amazing views. We turned back today but I believe it does loop around. Local Noongar artist Gertrina Hayden has designed the balustrade panels along the bridge that are about the six seasons.
So…. pack a picnic, grab your rug rats and head on down for hours of fun!
