Les Lilleyman Reserve, North Perth
Les Lilleyman Reserve in North Perth features a fenced playground surrounded by shady trees. Tucked away under the trees, this playground features swings, climbing equipment and nature play elements the kids will love!
Les Lilleyman Reserve offers something for everyone. To begin with, there are two swings. One is a regular swing, the other is a mobility swing with a harness. My Miss 8 was busting to get on these when we arrived!
Adjacent to this, there is a wooden climbing frame with a tube slide. To access the slide, children have multiple climbing options. There’s a chain slide, rock wall, a rope web or a ladder and a ramp. So small kids and bigger kids are both provided for.
Attached to this, for bigger kids, there are monkey bars and a flying fox. The flying fox probably ended up being Miss 8’s favourite.
In addition to these climbing elements, there are balancing beams and stepping logs to navigate. There is also a wooden mia mia and a shop structure for imaginative play.
Moreover, we found an additional set of balancing beams in the garden adjacent to the fenced playground.
Littler tots will also love the spring rockers. There’s one in the sand and one on the soft fall.
The playground is fully fenced with two magnetic gates, one at each end. The base is a mix of rubber soft fall with sand Under the shade of the trees within the playground, there are two benches to relax on.
Outside of the fence, there is free exercise equipment suitable for adults and teens. These exercise stations are spread around the outer areas of the reserve.
Likewise, there is a picnic table, a barbecue with two hot plates, and a water fountain outside the playground. The water fountain is suitable for both people and their dogs, and includes a water bottle refill spout. Toilets are available at the nearby club rooms.
At the opposite end of the oval, there is a basketball hoop and a cricket cage available to use. Great if you have sporty older kids who want to practice their skills.
If you fancy a coffee or snack during your outing, Les Lilleyman Reserve is a short walk along Auckland Street to Hobart Deli. You could also stop at the Hobart Street Playground and make it a playground crawl if your little monkeys are still bursting with energy.
The grassy reserve is largely used by people walking their dogs, exercising or playing sport. There’s paths that loop around the outside for walking laps or for kids on bikes or scooters.
The only downside I think we found with this playground was that the shade over the play equipment can be hit and miss depending on the time of day. There are no shade sails installed here, so you’ll be relying on shade from the surrounding tall trees. Our visit was mid-afternoon, so the sun was dropping. During the middle of the day, the playground could get hot. So, with this in mind, it’s best to pack hats and sunscreen just in case. You’ll also need to check anything not shade covered to prevent burnt bottoms or feet over the hotter months.
Other than that, this playground kept Miss 8 amused for a good hour just climbing and exploring. If you love a nature playgrounds, this one is definitely worth checking out.
