Len Packham Park in Coolbellup is home to a fantastic nature adventure Playground, set amongst towering mature trees that provide welcome shade for much of the day. Tucked in behind Coolbellup Public Library and right alongside the Coolbellup Skate Park, itโs an easy spot to make a full morning or afternoon of play, especially for families with mixed ages and interests.

The hero of the Playground is the impressive timber treehouse structure. Kids can climb a rope ladder up to a mid-level platform, then scramble through a rope tunnel to reach the top โhouseโ before zooming back down via a twisty slide. There are also ropes to help children pull themselves up rock walls to a fast, bumpy slide, or they can opt for wooden stairs at the rear if theyโre less confident climbers. The whole space has been constructed using recycled timber, rope and repurposed logs, giving it a natural, adventurous feel that blends beautifully with the surrounding trees.

Around the main structure youโll find a variety of balancing challenges to test little legs. There are high and low stepping logs, simple balance beams and a low stacked log feature with steps at differing heights, which is great for building confidence and coordination.

A dry creek bed runs through the middle of the Playground, with fallen log bridges to cross. After rain this area comes to life, adding a bit of extra excitement and a sense of exploration as children navigate the โriverโ and its crossings.
Len Packham Park has been designed with a broad age range and abilities in mind. Younger children will enjoy the lower balance elements and exploring the creek bed, while older kids gravitate to the big treehouse, climbing challenges and nearby skate park. There is an all-abilities roundabout close to the main path, allowing children using mobility aids or with additional needs to join in the spinning fun safely.

The adjacent Len Packham sports fields offer even more room to kick a ball, run around or set up informal games, making it an ideal location for group catch-ups, family gatherings and playdates.

Facilities at the Playground make it a comfortable place to linger. There is a water fountain that includes a low bowl so dogs can have a drink, free gas barbecues, and a shaded picnic table with extra seating. Around the outside of the play space youโll also find shaded lounge-style seating, perfect for carers to relax while still keeping an eye on the kids.

Bike racks are available near the skate park, encouraging families to ride over from the local area. One important point to note is that there are no toilets within the Playground itself; the closest facilities are at Coolbellup Library or Coolbellup Shopping Centre, so itโs worth planning toilet stops ahead of time, especially with younger children.

Beyond the Playground, Len Packham Reserve is a significant sporting hub for the local community. Managed by the City of Cockburn, the broader parkland at Len Packham features three full-sized soccer pitches with adjacent change-room facilities, regularly used for training, matches and community events. The nearby Len Packham Clubrooms at the reserve can also be hired for functions and sporting wind-ups, and include amenities such as a hall space, kitchen and toilets.
Overall, Len Packham Parkโs nature Playground offers a lovely mix of adventurous climbing, imaginative play, and relaxed green space. Combined with the neighbouring skate park, dog-friendly water fountain, shaded seating and expansive playing fields, itโs a great destination for families in Coolbellup and surrounding suburbs looking for a shaded, non-sand-based Playground with plenty of variety.
