Carawatha Park in Willagee is a brilliant allโages community space that combines nature play, teen hangโout zones and fitness facilities in one beautifully landscaped park. Tucked along Archibald Street, this awardโwinning Playground is designed to be inclusive and intergenerational, with something to keep toddlers, big kids, teens and even adults happily occupied. With established trees, shady lawns and a cafรฉ just across the road, itโs an easy spot to settle in for a few hours of play.

The main nature play area is a big drawcard. Kids can clamber over timber balancing beams, stepping stones and chunky logs, or head straight for the impressive slide mound.

The wide polished concrete slide is built into a hill, with room for multiple kids to ride sideโbyโside, and it finishes in a soft mulch base. Getting to the top is part of the fun, with rocks, log steps and climbing elements that encourage little adventurers to test their confidence and coordination.

Thereโs also a lovely elevated tree deck with climbing features and a scramble net, giving bigger kids a fun โtreehouseโ feel and a great view over the Playground.

Water and sand play are wellโcatered for here. Children love working the water pump and watching the water wind its way along channels before spilling into the sand play zone. The sand area includes an engaging pulley system where kids can haul sand up and tip it out, or dig and build below. Itโs a fantastic spot for imaginative and sensory play, so a change of clothes is definitely a good idea.

One of the standout features of Carawatha Park is the way it caters to older kids and teens. Beyond the main Playground, youโll find a dedicated teen space with a smooth skate path, outdoor ping pong table, custom basketball hoop and a cool โloungeโ style shelter that gives them somewhere to sit, chat and hang out. Thereโs also a pivot basket swing thatโs popular with both younger kids and teenagers. Wide paths curve through the park, perfect for scooters, bikes, skateboards and prams, so families can bring all their wheels and cruise around the different areas together.

The surrounding bushland adds another layer of adventure. A short track leads into rehabilitated native bush, where children can hunt for carved wooden creatures hidden among the trees and logs. This little โbushwalkโ is ideal for introducing younger kids to nature, with older siblings often taking the lead as mini tour guides. The park also embraces a bush tucker theme, with plantings such as macadamias, lilyโpillies and other edible species dotted through the gardens, creating a lovely, distinctly Australian feel.

Thereโs plenty of open grass for ball games, picnics and cartwheels, including AFL practice goals that keen footy fans will appreciate. Adults who want to squeeze in a workout can make use of the outdoor exercise equipment, thoughtfully shaded by macadamia trees.

Throughout the park youโll find a mix of standard and custom seating, including concrete chessโstyle tables and picnic settings sized for both big people and little people. Shade shelters and a shaded picnic lawn make it easier to escape the summer sun, while drinking fountains โ including one with a dog bowl and a stepโup for kids โ mean everyone stays hydrated.
Practical facilities are excellent. There are barbecues, plenty of seating and an accessible toilet, making the park suitable for longer catchโups, birthday gatherings or weekend family meetโups. A small car park with an accessible bay sits nearby, and there is usually ample street parking around the park if the car park is full. The Playground is not fenced, so youโll need to keep a closer eye on fastโmoving toddlers, but the generous layout and clear sightlines help.
One of the big bonuses of Carawatha Park is its proximity to coffee. Little Olive Leaf Cafรฉ is located just across the road, perfect for grabbing a takeaway drink or snack before you spread out the picnic rug. With great play opportunities for children of all ages, space for teens to feel at home, and thoughtful design touches that make it welcoming and accessible, Carawatha Park is the kind of place families visit once and quickly add to their regular rotation.
