Alston Park is tucked away in a relaxed, leafy pocket of Butler. This beautifully designed neighbourhood playspace combines nature-inspired aesthetics with plenty of fun for kids of all ages. As part of the City of Wannerooโs 2019/2020 Playground Renewal Program, the park received a thoughtful upgrade that blends seamlessly into its tranquil, tree-lined surrounds, creating a welcoming community space for local families.
The entire play area is set on sand, providing a soft, natural base thatโs ideal for climbing and jumping. Shade sails cover much of the Playground, helping to keep the equipment cooler on warmer days, and there are several shaded picnic tables and benches dotted throughout. Itโs an easy spot to bring a coffee, sit back, and relax while the kids play. Street parking is available close to the park, but there are no toilets on site, so itโs best suited to shorter visits or for those who live nearby and can easily duck home if needed.

The star of the Playground is the impressive Kanope Multiplay Unit. This striking, green-toned structure is packed with adventurous elements to challenge and entertain confident climbers. Kids can tackle the rock climbing wall, test their balance and coordination on the interactive spinner, zoom down the slide, or brave the inclined sliding poles. The firepole is a particular highlight, as it can be climbed both up and down, making it perfect for children who love to push their limits and build strength through active play.

Alongside the main structure, there are plenty of opportunities for spinning and swinging. The Hurricane Swing is a standout feature and can be enjoyed as a gentle back-and-forth swing or turned into a fast, exhilarating spin depending on whoโs in charge.

Younger children and siblings can play together on the four-seater โFalling Starโ rocker, which encourages cooperative play and lots of giggles as they bounce and rock in unison.

For children who love imaginative and sensory play, the sand factory is sure to be a hit. Equipped with a pulley, bucket, and creation table, it invites kids to dig, scoop, lift, pour, and build to their heartsโ content. This area is ideal for quieter, more focused play and is great for toddlers and preschoolers who enjoy hands-on, exploratory activities.

One thing for parents and carers to note is that the Playground has direct access to the street, so extra supervision is recommended for speedy toddlers or wanderers. That said, the open layout also adds to the parkโs relaxed, community feel, with clear sightlines across most of the play area, making it easier to keep an eye on multiple children at once.
Whether youโre calling in for a quick after-school play or planning a laid-back weekend visit with snacks and friends, Alston Park offers a well-balanced mix of climbing, spinning, swinging, and creative play. Set within a peaceful, family-friendly pocket of Butler, itโs a lovely local spot for kids to burn off energy and enjoy the outdoors.
