Traditional Music & Bon Dance of Japan for Harmony Week @ Clarkson Library
March 20 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Come along and listen to Sanshi play the shinobue and taiko. Shinobue is a Japanese side-blown bamboo flute that has a high-pitched but melodic sound. Traditionally shinobue plays an important part in the music festivals, folksongs, Shinto ritual and theatre performances of kabuki. The taiko or drum has been part of Japanese culture for centuries. When hit hard with bachi, taiko can produce sounds topping 130 decibels, a sound level on par with a jet plane! Sanshi will also guide you though some songs, moves and dances.
