Located just off Great Eastern Highway in Ascot, Adachi Park is a lovely little spot for families needing a play break or a peaceful stroll by the Swan River. Many will recognise it from the quirky little brick house visible from the highway, but thereโs much more here than meets the eye, including upgraded play equipment, riverside paths and shady picnic spots.

The Playground itself is compact but well designed, with a focus on climbing and active play. The main structure features two slides and lots of rope elements that encourage kids to scramble, balance and climb.

The larger slide can only be accessed by climbing the rope or rock-climbing wall and making their way across the top netting, or by crawling up from inside. This extra effort adds a sense of adventure and really appealed to our confident climber.

At the top thereโs a small ledge where children can sit before zooming down the slide. On this side of the structure youโll also find monkey bars, a rope spider net and additional balancing activities to challenge school-aged kids.

At the other end of the play structure, things are gentler and more suited to younger children. A small cubby-style house with a little slide provides a cosy spot for imaginative games. Children can reach it via two small climbing walls or a set of stairs, and thereโs plenty of space underneath for hide-and-seek or quiet play. Thereโs also a firemanโs pole for those ready to test their bravery. Nearby, a see-saw and a birds nest swing add to the fun and give options for kids of different ages to enjoy together. All the equipment sits on a woodchip base.

Parents and carers will appreciate that Adachi Park is well set up for a picnic or a longer visit. There are a couple of picnic tables close to the Playground for easy supervision. One picnic area, set a little further back, is under cover and complemented by a barbecue, making it ideal for a casual family sausage sizzle. Another barbecue and covered picnic area are located closer to the car park, giving you a few options depending on how close you want to be to the play area. Toilets are also conveniently located near the car park, which is a big tick for families with younger kids.

Surrounding the Playground is a generous grassy area, perfect for kicking a ball, throwing a frisbee or laying down a picnic rug. A shared walkway runs along the park and right past the play space, linking Adachi Park to other scenic spots along the river. One important note for families with little explorers: the Swan River sits just on the other side of the pathway. While this makes for beautiful views and a lovely atmosphere, it does mean youโll need to keep a close eye on children who like to wander or run ahead.

Once your kids have had their fill of Playground fun, itโs well worth exploring the riverside paths. A wander along the path towards the nearby Japanese-style gardens is a peaceful way to extend your visit.

Small side paths branch off the main walk, leading you to stepping stones, boardwalks through the riverside vegetation and a large gazebo thatโs great for a rest, a snack break or some photos. The area has a calm, almost tucked-away feel, despite being so close to the busy highway.

Continuing further along the path, youโll come to a jetty where you can stop and watch boats go by or quietly observe local birdlife. On our visit, a couple of fishermen were set up, adding to the relaxed, waterside atmosphere. The paths here are flat and pram-friendly, and next time we visit weโll definitely be packing the scooter or bike โ itโs an ideal length and surface for younger riders gaining confidence.

Adachi Park is named after Belmontโs sister city in Japan, and this connection adds a subtle cultural touch to the area, especially when combined with the nearby Japanese Gardens. With its blend of play equipment, open space, river views and accessible paths, itโs a great little stop-off for a play on the way to or from the airport, or a destination in its own right for a relaxed family outing.
