Wanneroo Showgrounds Playground

Wanneroo Showgrounds Playground is a lovely little spot tucked inside the secure grounds of Wanneroo Showgrounds, making it a great option if you’ve got speedy little runners who like to explore. Accessed via Ariti Avenue, the Playground shares the space with the long-established skate park and community tennis courts, so there’s plenty here to keep a mix of ages entertained.

The Playground itself is compact but engaging, with a fun green and purple colour scheme and equipment that suits younger children. Kids will love zooming down the curved slide, having a go on the swings or climbing aboard the rowboat for imaginative play. There are lots of ramps to race along and climbing frames to scramble over, giving little legs a decent workout without being too daunting for toddlers and preschoolers.

One of the biggest drawcards is the shade. The entire Playground is covered with shade sails, and there are many tall trees surrounding the area, providing extra shade over the grass. This makes it a comfortable spot even on warmer days, and ideal for a relaxed picnic. The grass at the showgrounds is usually beautifully green and well maintained, perfect for spreading out a blanket or letting the kids have a run around. Toilets are conveniently located right next to the Playground, which is always a big tick for families.

While there isn’t a dedicated café on site, the nearby footy club canteen opens on weekends and is just a short stroll away when you need a cold drink or a snack. The community tennis courts sit alongside the Playground too, so it’s a handy place for younger kids to play safely while older siblings or parents have a hit of tennis.

Right next door is the Wanneroo skate park, which has been a local favourite for years. It features a bowl at one end along with grinding rails and steps at the other, catering for skaters, scooter riders and BMX kids with a bit of experience. Families should note that, unlike the Playground, the skate park has very little shade and can get quite hot and exposed in summer, so hats, sunscreen and plenty of water are essential.

With secure showground fencing, good shade, toilets close by and a mix of activities for different ages, Wanneroo Showgrounds Playground is a handy little north-of-the-river spot to keep up your sleeve – particularly if you have both younger children and older kids who enjoy skating or scooting.
