Pitstop Playground at Discovery Park in Banksia Grove is a fantastic, high-energy park for kids who love speed, scooters and bikes. Centred around a fun racing theme, the Playground features a twisting track that loops around the space, complete with a โpitstopโ area where kids can chalk their names up on blackboards and race their friends.

Itโs a great spot to bring scooters, balance bikes and small bicycles, and thereโs plenty of room for children to zoom around and burn off energy. Because wheeled toys are such a big part of the experience, itโs worth labeling your gear and keeping an eye on it, as there have been reports of scooters going missing.

The play equipment itself is best suited to confident kids aged around four and up. The main features are built on and around large mounds, adding an extra sense of height and adventure.

Two super-fast slides shoot down from the top of one mound, accessed via a rope-assisted climb that gives little legs a good workout.

Nearby, a large spider-web climbing net offers a challenge for older children who love to climb, while a commando-style rope bridge provides another way to scramble up and over the mounds and test balance skills.

Youโll also find a pair of traditional swings and a see-saw to round out the play options.

While thereโs not a lot here for toddlers, younger siblings can still enjoy pottering about the grassy areas or watching the โbig kidsโ race around the track and splash near the water. However, families should be aware that there is open water right next to the Playground. A creek and small lake run through Discovery Park, so close supervision is essential, especially with younger children who are drawn to water.
One of the loveliest aspects of Pitstop Playground is its setting within Discovery Park. The landscaped grounds are leafy and inviting, with a creek flowing into a small lake and several bridges crossing over the water.. Shaded picnic shelters and free BBQs are dotted along the creek, making it an excellent spot for a family picnic or casual birthday gathering.

There is a small shaded seating area with a couple of benches near the swings, giving adults somewhere to sit while still keeping a good view of the action. On hot days itโs still wise to bring hats, sunscreen and water, and to plan for breaks in the shadier spots along the creek.

There are a couple of downsides to be aware of when planning a visit. Firstly, there are no public toilets within the immediate Playground area, so itโs a good idea to go before you arrive or factor in a short drive to nearby facilities. Secondly, there is no dedicated car park for Discovery Park; parking is on surrounding streets, primarily along Grandis Boulevard and Botanic Avenue. On busy weekends or school holidays, it can be a little tricky to find a spot close by, so allow extra time for parking and walking in with kids and gear.
Overall, Pitstop Playground is a brilliant destination for families with primary-school-aged children who love active, imaginative play. The combination of the racing-track theme, fast slides, climbing challenges and the picturesque creek setting makes it a park you can easily spend a few hours exploring. Pack the scooters and bikes, bring a picnic, and enjoy a lively day out in Banksia Grove.
