Edinboro Street Reserve in Mount Hawthorn is a tranquil, fully fenced neighbourhood park that has had a major Playground refresh, turning it into a fantastic natureโinspired space for local families. Tucked away on Edinboro Street, the reserve feels cosy and green, with big established trees providing natural shade around the edges and plenty of lawn for kids to run around or kick a ball. Dogs are welcome on lead, making it an easy spot for the whole family to enjoy a relaxed play and stroll.

The revamped Playground sits on a mix of rubber and soft-fall mulch surfaces and has been designed for children aged roughly 0โ12, with equipment at low, medium and higher levels to suit a range of abilities.

The main multiplay structure offers lots to explore, with climbing elements, slides, bridges and platforms that encourage kids to scramble, balance and navigate different routes.

A variety of challenging climbing frames, monkey bars, rope bridges and ladders provide opportunities for older or more confident children to test their strength and coordination, while still feeling contained within the gated space.

Younger children and toddlers are well catered for too. The adorable kookaburra rocker is a hit with little ones, offering a gentle ride-on option close to the main play structure.

Continuing the nature play theme, a bush story panel invites imaginative and creative play, giving children prompts for storytelling and role play as they move through the Playground. The equipment has been chosen to encourage open-ended, cooperative play rather than just quick one-off activities.

On the opposite side of the Playground youโll find a dedicated swing area, with a standard double swing and an inclusive saucer swing. There is plenty of space around the swings, which helps reduce collisions and makes it easier for carers to stand nearby.

A standout new feature is the dynamic 6m seated skyrail/flying fox, which adds a sense of adventure for older kids who love to zoom across the park. The inclusive saucer swing and the skyrail give children different ways to experience movement and speed, and are great for siblings to enjoy together.

Sand play fans are in luck, with a separate sandpit area that includes a large, inviting pit and some shade. One of the loveliest aspects of this space is the collection of community-supplied digging toys and vehicles that are often found there, encouraging sharing and cooperative play.

Nearby, more active kids will be drawn to challenges like the โninjaโ warped wall, giving them a chance to practise climbing and running skills in a playful, low-pressure setting.

Although there are lots of mature trees providing shade around the reserve, artificial shade structures over the main Playground are limited, so itโs best to visit early or later in the day and make sure everyone is well covered in sunscreen, hats and suitable clothing. The City of Vincent has planted additional trees as part of the Playground upgrade, which will increase natural shade as they mature over time.

Facilities are fairly simple, which suits the neighbourhood feel of the reserve. There are benches placed around the Playground, making it easy for adults to sit and supervise while still being close to the action. A water fountain is available on site, so you can refill drink bottles. There are currently no BBQs or toilets within the reserve itself; the nearest public toilets are at Braithwaite Park, about a threeโminute drive away. Street parking is available along Edinboro Street, though it can be limited at busy times. The park is generally open from 7amโ10pm daily if youโre planning an early morning or twilight play.
Overall, Edinboro Street Reserve is a lovely, communityโminded Playground with a strong nature play flavour and a good mix of equipment for toddlers through to primaryโschoolโaged children. With its fully gated layout, variety of climbing, swinging and imaginative play options, and leafy surroundings, itโs an excellent option for a low-key playdate, quick afterโschool run-around or weekend catch up with friends.
