Centenary Park in Belmont is a lovely spot for families, combining a fully fenced toddler-friendly Playground with a scenic lakeside walk, big open sports fields and plenty of facilities for longer visits. Tucked on the Daly Street side of the park near Centenary Park Community Centre and the oval, itโs easy to make a whole morning or afternoon of your visit here, especially with a handy McDonaldโs nearby for a takeaway coffee on the way.

The fenced Playground has been designed with younger children in mind and features a mix of soft fall and sand, so thereโs room for both safe running and digging. The central wooden play structure offers a few different ways to climb up, including a rope ladder and traditional wooden ladders, helping little ones build confidence as they choose their own route.
On the first platform, kids will find a bucket and chain set-up โ perfect for hauling sand up from below and adding a bit of teamwork and pretend play.

The higher platform feels like a cosy cubby house, complete with a little bench seat, and leads to a fun, speedy metal slide that younger children will likely want to ride again and again.

Around the main structure, thereโs a good variety of extra play elements to keep toddlers and preschoolers busy. A bucket swing is great for those who like a gentler, enclosed ride, while a sand digger adds to the construction play options.

Musical instruments invite kids to bang, tap and explore different sounds, and a sweet rocker shaped like a black swan ties beautifully into the parkโs lakeside setting, where black swans are often seen gliding across the water.

Thereโs also water play, including a pump feature โ this may not always be operating, but when it is, expect it to be a big hit on warmer days as children experiment with splashing, channeling and mixing water with sand.

Although the Playground is fully fenced, itโs worth noting that there is a section of fencing that many younger children will be able to climb through, leading straight out towards the roadside. Caregivers will want to keep this in mind and choose a spot to sit where they can easily supervise that area in particular. Inside the fence, the combination of soft fall, sand and low-level equipment makes it a comfortable and inviting space for little explorers who are still finding their feet.

One of the big drawcards of Centenary Park is that the fenced play area is only part of whatโs on offer. The Playground overlooks a picturesque lake with a path circling around it, making it ideal for pram walks, scooter rides or a gentle stroll after playtime. Birdlife is a regular feature here, adding to the sense of being in a green oasis despite the parkโs urban location.

The older Playground at Centenary Park has recently been given a fantastic upgrade, transforming it into an adventurous space that really appeals to school-aged kids. Set in a big sandpit under the trees, the new equipment features a bright orange climbing wall with blue handholds and peek-through holes, perfect for confident climbers to test their skills before scrambling over the top.

Attached is a multi-sided ropes and balance structure with overhead nets, wobbly step pads and rope challenges, encouraging kids to swing, climb and traverse in lots of different ways.

Thereโs also an engaging sand and play table with chutes, buckets and spinning wheels where children can scoop, pour and experiment together. This revamped area adds a more challenging, active play option to complement the fenced toddler Playground, making Centenary Park an even better destination for families with a mix of ages.

Facilities are another strong point. Centenary Park includes public toilets, plenty of BBQs and gazebos dotted around, and a large playing field with cricket nets. The oval is used seasonally for cricket in summer and rugby in winter, and can also be booked for community or sporting events, but at other times it offers lots of open space for a kick of the footy or a picnic on the grass. Thereโs exercise equipment for adults whoโd like to sneak in a quick workout while the kids play, and the park is popular with dog owners too โ dogs are welcome on-lead around the reserve, though theyโre generally not permitted inside the fenced Playground itself.
Parking is available off Daly Street near the community centre and oval, making access straightforward for families with prams or picnic gear. With its fenced toddler play space, lakeside path, shaded picnic spots and good amenities, Centenary Park is a very family-friendly choice for a relaxed play, a small gathering or even a kidsโ birthday party. Itโs the kind of park where younger children can safely potter and play, while adults enjoy the calm outlook over the water and the convenience of having everything they need close by.
