Hawker Playground in Warwick, found in the northern suburbs, has recently enjoyed a makeover! The new play equipment will keep primary school aged kids, as well as confident toddlers entertained. The sand-fall playground has a fort-like metal play structure, which great for a little imaginative play. This play equipment is fantastic for kindy/primary school aged children, as there are lots of things to climb on. The Tom Simpson Park has a new playground (opened July 2018) and is a welcome addition to the grassy Mullaloo foreshore! The rusty, tired old metal play structure on the north end of the park has gone and now there’s a fun-tastic wooden structure, as well as a little nature and water play and a toddler area too. The playground is dominated by a large wooden fort-like structure, best for older kids, as all the ways to the top are via climbing nets. Penistone Park is a large green park in Greenwood surrounded by tall shady gum trees. A new playground has recently been installed, and it is a delightful mix of traditional play equipment and nature play. On arriving, Miss 4 took off and headed straight to the traditional play section with rope ladders. This area includes a double rope ladder, like one might find on a ship. Seacrest Park in Sorrento ticks a lot of boxes for parents and carers. Fully fenced playground – tick. Large range of playground equipment suitable for various ages – tick. Hillarys Beach Park, Whitfords Nodes Hillarys Beach Park at Whitfords Nodes has undergone a revamp. This family friendly picnic spot now features a new playground including both traditional and nature play equipment. With it’s inclusive design, this park is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages! Calling all climbers! The recently revamped play space at Flinders Park in Hillarys is ideal for kids who love a challenge. The playground reopened several months ago and now boasts various rope ladders and climbing frames, plus balance and stepping logs for kids to test their agility. The play structures are best suited to older children but my toddler was still able to climb up some of the ladders and enjoy the slides. Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup is a park more suited to the under 5’s. The playground is partially enclosed and is quite compact and easy to keep track of little ones. It features play equipment in the guise of a train engine and its carriages with each carriage providing a different feature. The train engine houses a small slide which is great for crawlers and early walkers. There’s lots of fun to be had at this bright and vibrant playground including lots of traditional equipment, sand play and so much space to run and play a game of footy. As a mum of a busy 2-year-old toddler, I couldn’t be more thrilled with Joondalup Square playground, located opposite the gigantic Bunnings Warehouse. As an added bonus, the well thought out open-air play area is surrounded by eateries! Joondalup Square playground is shaded by two shade sails and is fully fenced and gated. MacDonald Park Padbury features an amazing scooter/bike track for young children, nature and traditional play elements and a huge sporting oval – there is something for everyone! The scooter/bike track complete with road signs, pedestrian crossings and bike/scooter parking areas was the highlight for my 7 and 2 year olds! Not only did they have lots of fun navigating the roundabouts, twisting roads and speed humps, they also learnt plenty of road rules along the way! If you’re looking for a playground that’s great for imaginative play, Albacore Park in Sorrento might be for you. It has a fun castle play structure that’s sure to get little imaginations going. As of October 2018, Gascoyne Park in Woodvale opened an exciting new playground. This includes nature-play elements and traditional play equipment to suit kids of all ages. The first thing to catch Miss 4’s attention was the carved wooden crocodile. He is carved out of a log, his back left rough while his head and tail are smooth and painted green.
