Kids love a good scooter and bike park! Children get to practise their riding in a safe environment. Many have great features such as simulated roads with stop signs and petrol pumps. Great for imaginative play! Plus you can start teaching some bike safety skills. Others are more challenging with pump tracks and jumps.

As we pulled up to this new playground at Frasers Landing in Mandurah the first word out of both my kid’s mouths was “WOW” – the bright red playground is definitely eye-catching!!! The main play structure replicates a bird’s nest which ties into the naturalistic lifestyle of Frasers Landing. Just a short 5 minute walk from Ngarkal Beach and the Port Coogee water park in the new Parkside Retreat estate, you will find this lovely local playground. The slide is attached to an up-ended sea container that has 2 ways of climbing to the top. You can go around to the back and climb the outside to the door. The Esplanade Youth Plaza in Fremantle is a family-friendly, inner-city hangout located at the southeastern corner of Fremantle’s Esplanade Reserve. This has to be one of the best nature playgrounds we’ve been to in the local area The Edge Playground in Baldivis is beautiful! It’s a unique and contemporary space that lots of additional features including a maze, hopscotch and cool street art incorporated into the area by Perth street artist Stormie Mills. Jackadder Lake Reserve is a lovely family park ideal for a morning or afternoon of fun play and scooting/cycling around the beautiful lake and spotting the wildlife. The playground is suitable for kids of all age and is set in a mixture of sand and soft play flooring. Kids can enjoy wiggly slides, straight slides, and curly slides all of which aren’t particularly steep so great for the toddlers. Allure North Park is the latest playground in the Calleya Estate, Treeby and it does not disappoint. The main attraction is the Junior BMX Pump Track that is enjoyed by BMX riders, general bike riders, skateboarders and those on scooters! My 8yr old tested out the track on her bicycle and gave it the big thumbs up! After a couple of tumbles, she quickly got the hang of the pumps and started to get more daring on the shoulders by turning higher up the curved walls. On a recent road trip, we took a detour through Northam, the detour was originally to check out the Northam Suspension Bridge, which is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in Australia. After crossing the bridge, which was well worth the visit (until the kids thought it was fun to make it sway), we discovered Bernard Park which features two fully fenced play areas, a water playground, sculptures, amphitheatre, picnic and BBQ facilities and public toilets. The new Tomato Lake all-abilities playground has opened and it appears to be a big hit as it was very busy when we visited. The playground is in front between the cafe and the bbq picnic area. The bbq area has also been refreshed with new picnic tables. The playground has been designed to suit toddlers through to older kids, including those with disabilities. Since opening in mid 2016 Shepherds Bush Park in Kingsley has been a popular place for kids to take their bikes and scooters, now the popular playground also includes a pump and jump bike trail. The BMX/Mountain bike track includes colour coded tracks suitable for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. The beginner’s track is great for younger ones who are confident bike riders. Ready, set, go! The Harrisdale Skate and Scooter Park is a brilliant spot for children big and small to get active. The Heron Park Estate has created a scooter track, as well as a small skate park, and even basketball/football facilities – so remember to pack a ball too! Pitstop Playground is located at Discovery Park, Banksia Grove and it’s pretty special – in fact I’ve not seen anything like it! The central theme of Pitstop Playgrounds, if you haven’t already guessed it, is racing. It has a great racing track that twists and turns around the park complete with Pitstop area where you can chalk your names up on the blackboards and race each other. The newly completed Lions Park is a race track/road inspired park. It is only a small park but if you have a little one who is learning to scoot or ride this would be a good park to practice at. Rendell Park features a scooter and bike track in a similar style to Shepherds Bush Park, with the track laid out like a mini road with little street signs and a roundabout. Gingin is a small and quaint township with a mighty new playground that is jam-packed with features and caters for children of all ages! The playground is nature-based, one of the main features is the Gingin Tower which includes two slides, a rope ladder and bridge. Other nature-based elements include stepping stumps and logs. Located just around Harrisdale Nature Reserve, Harrisdale Green Sensory Park is the all-new interactive sensory park for children of all abilities at the new Harrisdale Green Estate. When we first drove past, this cute playground caught our attention with its vibrant colours. The scale of this playground is smallish and more suited for younger toddlers. Located on the north-west corner of Leatherback Oval in Alkimos Beach is a brand new Bike Safety Course that is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages! It features a realistic layout of Perth’s streets that gives children aged 4-11 years old hands on opportunities to learn pedestrian and bike travel safety skills. Lake Monger is now home to an exciting new adventure playground! The playground has been specifically designed for children over the age of 5 who love a challenge! Arriving at the playground, my 5 year old couldn’t wait to tackle the ninja rope obstacle course, or as he called it the Roblox obby. Iluka Foreshore Park has a brand new nautical themed nature playground that kids of all ages are guaranteed to love! Iluka Foreshore Park is separated into three sections, the first consists of a wooden boat, it was perfect for my toddler to play on, he loved steering the boat and climbing the steps to the slide. Katanning All Ages Playground is a one of a kind playground, the type of playground that creates memories that last a lifetime! McCallum Park is a large, but seemingly underused, park located near that difficult to negotiate junction between Shepperton Road and Canning Hwy. It’s accessed from Taylor St (off Canning Hwy) and there are plenty of parking spaces (some shaded) on both Taylor St. and the adjacent Garland St. Toilets (LHS) and parking on Taylor St. There are male and female toilets on both Taylor and Garland Streets and these were….well…what you would expect in a park. The Kent St Weir area has just got even better with the newly opened Pump Track. The pump track is located on Kent St as you drive into the main car park area. The last few times we have visited the area the car park has been full and parking has overflowed to the adjoining streets. Just off of Beach Road in Girrawheen, we discovered Tendring Park, a neat little park with a life sized snakes and ladders game. The main play structure in the playground features a twisty slide, a climbing wall, a rope climbing web, a fireman pole, some balancing platforms, monkey bars, and a little steering wheel at the top for imagination play. Richard Aldersea Park is situated among the leafy streets of Clarkson, just behind Clarkson Primary School. Little Miss and I discovered it while out for a drive, and found its suitable for a range of ages and abilities, from toddlers upwards. The main play structure has two slides, and lots to climb. A climbing wall is mounted on one side between the slide. Ashdale Park is a lovely playground situated in Darch. The playground is located at the rear of Ashdale Primary, adjacent to a small pocket of bushland. The playground here is partially shaded with shade sails. It is set well back from the road, down a pathway, so should be safe for little ones to play. Booyeembara Park located on Montreal Street in Fremantle is gorgeous parkland with plenty of open space, bush land, walking circuits and a central man-made lake. Located within the park is a small quirky playground. The centre piece of the playground is an unusual 5 way swing. The swings are designed for children aged 6 – 12 years. Strive Park, Girrawheen Strive Park is a small park located in the Blackmore Park Estate, in Girrawheen. The playground here features nature play elements, some traditional play elements, and a bike and scooter track. It’s sure to be a hit with the kids! Found within the Lloyd Penn Park, the playground named after local resident and former councillor Margaret Holland is a little gem in the Midland area.
