Studio Marigold is a new creative workshop just for kids based in Leeming. Othering classes for kids aged from 1 year old all the way up to 11 years old. We recently attended their “Mini Makers” session for ages 1 – 4 years old. Classes are $25 for an hour, and I came home with countless pieces of child art.
Each session features multiple art stations that change weekly, including painting, drawing and crafting using a range of materials, both conventional and recyclable, which I love.
When we attended, there were 7 different stations, all of which were so creative. There was a paint station where your kids could pour paint on pieces of paper inside a salad spinner, and then the kids watched in amazement as the paint moved as it spun around faster and faster.
There was a painting station where you used balloons to paint instead of paint brushes; it was such a fun way to mix it up.
My favourite activity was the rainbow station, which used pieces of recycled carboard as the arch base and then a mixture of materials to create the colors of the rainbow. This was a fun one that I’d love to recreate at home.
There was also a playdough and sensory sand station, which my youngest enjoyed a lot, as well as a ribbon station, which was child-led led and we ended up making bracelets as well as just throwing the ribbons everywhere … My daughter’s favorite was the DIY wand station with themes like unicorns, fairies, bull dozers and dinosaurs. Kids could color them in as they wished and then tie colourful ribbons around them.
I loved that there was no limit on what the kids could do; there was guidance, but they were free to create as they wished and as much as they wanted. I left with two rainbows, four paintings and two wands! It was a lovely way to spend the morning, and it was nice to arrive, enjoy and not have to worry about clean up.
I highly recommend this, especially if you have kids that love arts and crafts. My eldest daughter was in her element and we must be back again.
