Anzac At Home Ideas
Can’t get out to an Anzac Day event with small kids or due to health issues? Not to worry! You can always observe at home. Why not create some Anzac themed crafts with the kids or bake some Anzac biscuits? The Australian War Memorial website has a list of ideas for the whole family, starting with making paper Anzac poppies.ย
Another fun craft idea is to make Anzac Day lanterns to light up the dawn on Anzac Day. Be A Fun Mum blog has some easy instructions on how to upcycle a milk bottle into a colourful lantern. Battery operated candles are a flame-free option to avoid burns.ย

*ย Anzac Dayย is our national day of commemoration, marking theย 1915 Gallipoli landing during World War 1. This expedition was the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The purpose was to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in order to open the Dardanelles to the allied navies. The ultimate objective was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul), the capital of the Ottoman Empire, an ally of Germany.ย This eight-month campaign resulted in significant Australian casualties, with around 8,700 soldiers losing their lives. The brave men who served on the Gallipoli Peninsula forged a powerful and enduring legacy, introducing the term Anzac into our language and embodying the spirit of the Anzacs, characterised by values of mateship and sacrifice. Today, Anzac Day honoursย all Australians who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice in times of peace and war.ย Anzac Day brings together current and former service men and women, their families and the wider community in a tribute to all those who have fought for our freedom and security.ย It is a day where all Australians reflect and remember those who have served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Lest we forget.
